Happy Belated birthday, Trekker! Dont ever force yourself to look at your age on a computer screen...you'll be forced to go bleach your eyes out!

Happiest and most joyful of birthdays to ya!

Please, could you add a forum for Parents with Disabilities?

I have MS, I use a wheelchair, I have three young children. Anyone with a disability already faces issues of isolation. Add children and the issues become more challenging.

Because of my issues, I have almost no real-life contact with other parents. I have zero contact wth other parents with disabilities. I have tried repeatedly to find online sources of community for parents with disabilities and been unsuccessful.

If you added a forum here for Parents with Disabilities, I would be thrilled. I also know there are plenty of young parents with disabilities and chronic illness who could use a common place for support.

To make it clear: This would be to support disabled parents, not parents of children with disabilities.

I had asked before at BT, but I think it may have been confused with child neurology.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

I think a good idea and adding one word might be good too. "Parents with Disabilities" or "Parents Living with Disabilities". I, personally, think that a great idea for a forum.

I know many times my pain issues were difficult for me, but also difficult for my family to even understand, let alone help me with. It didn't matter how I felt, the children still got sick, still got in fights, still needed dinner... Then when I would have to have a surgery, or procedure, dealing with their fears and helping them with understanding was HUGE.

My children are grown now, but I have my little man that I'm raising who will be 4 next month. I would certainly contribute.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks for all the suggestions!

YES! I second and third this! I am not "disabled" in the clinical sense, but when you live with a "hidden" condition and are trying to raise children (esp one with a disability as well), keep a house, maintain a marriage, etc., something like this is very needed and much appreciated.

Thanks so much!

If you have a suggestion for a name, I'm all for something else.

Cancer has so many different areas also and granted there is lots and lots on the web. I was thinking just generic for the posters that already are members and have their support systems on these forums if/when they have to deal with cancer for themselves or loved ones. My thought was letting members already getting their support here to have a place to go without having to look for new support systems on Cancer only forums.

I've been pretty sick from Med s/e so please excuse my mental absence. I hope my explanations above make sense. If not, please feel free to add anything.

PS I also take my share of narcotics and have never gotten high. That was the last thing I was thinking when I suggested an abuse forum. I'm so sorry.

Trekker....I agree with your requests!!!! Especially Pet forum and Hugs/Kisses smileys......lots of them
Shotspine, you dare doing just fine. I had thought about the Alz. room then someone mentioned Dementia and I hab not even thought of it. the 2 are alike in so many ways, He did put up the A&D Forum today. now I don't know what to say lol I hope people will use it. Many came by caregiver today. Some real urgent needs there. Glad he made that one.

They have an addiction forum, but if you're thinking about meds. we take I know many take them just for the fun of it. I know the street name and price of many on the streat. the price is staggering. Yes indeed, that kind of abuse needs addressing.
I hate to even say it but My DIL is addicted and she has done some really bad things. Has 4 kids and my son, her hubby a policeofficer. She seems to be doing better but she still tskes the pain meds, but son has to dole them out. I know she can't be the only one, you kow? well good luck and I think they will think of itwhen they can do it . take care shotspine, Jo ((((shotspine))))

Thumbs up Forum for Emotional Support

I originally participated on PTSD forum on the OBT quite a while ago, but stopped because it was no longer helpful for me, in fact, at some time in time it can become detrimental. At least, that is my opinion. I often thought that what was so difficult about being involved in a PTSD forum is that you have many people who have experienced many different types of trauma and who also are at different stages of recovery, as well.

Anyway, there came a point in time, that I knew I did not belong there anymore. It wasn't right for me. However, I still need a lot of help and encouragement in exploring this thing called "my life." I am suggesting to have another "Forum for Emotional Support" like in the OTB. I believe this could be helpful to anyone that needs a little encouragement in their own life journey, no matter what their challenges may be.

Dear Doc John,

Dystonia affects people with all sorts of neurological diseases and conditions (MS, metabolic disorders, cerebral palsy, TBI, tardive dyskinesia from meds for all kinds of disorders, etc etc)

We really need a dystonia forum! Movement disorders is nice....don't get me wrong. (thank you!) And maybe that will be enough, but I wonder if it isn't too much to throw together (esp. considering spasticity is often described as an md!)

maybe others have an opinion about whether MovementDisorders is too broad, or whether we need dystonia/myoclonus/tremor forums?
