I guess I sound stupid, but what type of Abuse do you mean? Many forms as we all know. Shotshine, I have been treated for Chronic pain for many years and I can say that I never got "high" off any of them. I've takes some pretty strong stuff too. but, some do. Theres phsyical abuse , I was trapped in that one for years, but one day I said NO MORE! I walked out took my 4 kids and left that sob! I hope the Dr. will talk to you about both of those causes.
