Question Question regarding a User Profile feature

I need to get off this computer for a while as my brain is going a bit fuzzy.

However, I do have a question regarding "Contacts" and "Friends".

I just read the FAQ and I'm still not quite sure about the difference.

After a very long time of having my profile page and albums basically blank, I've just started anew. So I've added some of my pics into various albums and added some of my friends. I didn't click on the "Contact" button at all, just the "Friend" one.

I noticed in the Albums section there was an option to have them viewable by "Public" or just by "Contacts and Moderators". What about my friends? Is the term Friend and Contact the same?

The FAQ made me think the terms were different. Just wondering.

I just want to make sure that my friends can view my whole profile page if they needed to.

Thank you in advance.

[A friendship is a mutual, two-way relationship between two users. It is initiated by one user and accepted by the other.

A contact is a one-way friendship. This could be where the other person does not accept the friendship, a friendship request is pending, or you do not wish to be friends at this time but want to show them as a contact only.]

Similar but a minor difference, for a friend the friend checkbox is checked - in your list of friends/contacts on profile page.
for contacts you still have it listed , but the friend box is not checked.

Albums-
[ Public albums can be viewed by anyone
Private albums can only be viewed by site staff (moderators, administrators) and your Friends and Contacts
Profile albums are viewable only by you. However, you can use the images to customize your public profile ]

hope that helps.

EDITED to add: OK, I got it! Yay

Thank you, Jo.

I was just confused by what it says when making an Album. Didn't mention friends so I thought I'd done it all incorrectly.

Album Type:
Public
Private - Only visible to contacts and moderators

I didn't understand this, but clicked on (info)

I now understand this feature to be disabled.

How do I customize my profile page?

You may be able to edit the design and styling of your public profile page (if this is enabled by the board administrator) via the 'Customize Profile' section within the User CP. You can adjust the color scheme, fonts, borders and layout of elements on the page.

You can also use images as background for various sections of you profile. First you will need to upload the background images to an album you have created (?). Background images can be sourced only from albums defined as public, or 'profile' type. Images in private albums cannot be used.
All sorted.
Thanks

I suppose the Private ablbum could be used for storage of photos that you don't want others to see.

[you can use the images to customize your public profile]
Not 100% sure about the customization that it mentions.
