Hi Everyone,

As you can see, I've got the basic server up and running again, finally. I'm sorry it has taken so long to get this far.

I basically rebuilt the server from the ground up. Did a low-level wiping of the drives, installed the latest version of the OS, and the latest version of vBulletin.

I'm going to create the forum categories tonight and add some of the same templates. I need to let the system run for a day after that to make sure things are stable. I'll be adding the same chat system right after that. As for all the old posts, I'm going to see what I can salvage from the database backups. But right now, I want to make sure the system is up and available. Don't worry, whatever you post now will NOT be removed later.

Thanks so much for hanging in there.

Oh, and yes, you'll need to reregister! Sorry about that, but I want to make sure the user database is reliable. Best way to do that is start from scratch!

OK, the "identify letters in a box" was a broken. :P It's a troublesome feature especially for folks with vision problems, so I've removed it.

Default OK I'll post this fact again...

Other bb's have gone down in the past and have been down a long time..in ALL cases some to all prior info was lost. In ALL cases members had to sign on as if new. It goes with the situation's territory.

shotspine, I sincerely commend you for that expression of thanks to DocJohn who has been so very gracious to us all.

I really hope the wealth of info at OBT can be salvaged...it was such a blow when we lost it from the old mgh servers, and everyone had done a stellar job of re-posting so much valuable info on hastypastry.

As has been said before, some will return to OBT and say goodbye here, some will only want to be here, and others will be happy to enjoy the best of both..........whatever the choices, our bonds as a community that care about each other remain unbroken

I am inclined to stay here but will also go there --if that makes any sense.
Speaking of that--I re-registered at OBT and all went fine and my user name is there but I have not recieved that e-mail that finishes the process and allows me to post???

Anyone else? Yes--I have disabled spam.
Thanks
Debbie

Quote "I'm sorry it has taken so long to get this far."

That's all we get? No explanation, no acknowledgement that 50,000, or 40,000 or however many people were left for almost THREE months without what for some is their only connection to the wider world, and for others gravely ill or facing surgery or treatment a desperately needed source of information, research and support.
No mention of the worry and anxiety caused by the loss of contact with friends facing medical, finacial, or marital crises.

Gggrrr!! I have refrained from writing anything in anger. I have waited to see what would happen when OBT returned, and gave JL the benefit of the doubt. But to return and take up business as usual, with only this apology and NO explanation, is a slap in the face. It says he owes us nothing, and respects us not at all.

I guess I'm not really surprised, but I hoped for better from him.

ha. I got the "your IP address has been banned by the administration message". So...leads me to think some things were selectivley lost, while others not? Hows that work again? How does a server crash...and things get lost, but the banned members remain "banned" hum. cute.

So much for the amnesty theory..

I certainly don't know anything for a fact but I expect that John's first priority is just getting the forums up and running and working out the bugs. Which would you prefer... an explanation first or working forums?

I never cease to be amazed at the complete lack of patience from so many. It's a shame really. It seems everyone has had more than enough chance to rant on and on and on and on.......how about 'moving forward' now?

I truly hope that John doesn't get completely overwhelmed with all the negative input to him before he has a chance to regroup.

Deep Breathing helps!
