Anyone know what ghoti is?

Answer below......

GH="F" as in enough
O="I" as in women
TI="SH" as in nation

There you go...

GHOTI=FISH

Can you imagine trying to learn English as a second language? I used to use this exercise as a teacher with my parents (of second graders) on Back to School Night. It illustrated the value of context in learning to read.

Alone, "ghoti" means nothing. But start to put it with words in context, it becomes familiar...

I saw a ghoti in the water. (Could be a fish, a person, a bird, some litter)
I saw a ghoti swimmining in a school in the water. (now it's a fish)

That's it. Just my $.02. Time for shut eye here!

xoxo,
Annie B.
