Lol
I just thought of something that may bring a smile to those that my post may have offended...(and it is NOT my intention to offend anyone!)
would I not buy "Caulk" because it sounds like another word. Would I not type "Clock" because if you take away the "l" it looks like another word. Would I not eat Chicken because they are mates of the Co_ks????? (Then again, some countries call them Chooks. LOL) LMAO...probably NOT. Just some "food" for thought. have a good weekend, all |
hi dude
the thing about the initials....we have been using them. like bt1 and bt2. it was brought up cuz posts are gonna have BS or BM instead. but who knows, might help in a google search. :D |

hi curious, how are you, me friend?
and ktm, thanks. LOL _____ well, I wanted to come back and say that I am grateful for democracy, and that any opinions that has been expressed here whether I agree with it or not, I support having the RIGHT to express those opinions. My intention was to point out that whether what names we pick out should have no bearing to what this forum is about. Now, I fully understand using initials and people find that offensive. But if I was say that I have a BS degree, would someone find that troubling? I think the negative connotations with words and initials have come from the society itself. If I was to say, "Bovine Defacation" would that not mean the same as BS? would BD then become the topic. LOL I know some psychologists/psychiatrists that hate the word, "Shrink" but are we NOT allowed to say "shrink?" well, probably not infront of them. cause I was gonna try an be funny and suggest, shrinkjohnsforum.shrunk LOL I think it comes down to respect. If you know someone that gets offended with certain phrase or terms, and you are in their presence. Try to avoid them. In the meanwhile, I hope they respect you back also. But when it is something for this MASS forum, it is hard to cater to individual needs and wants then it comes down to the votes. How many don't like Bush, how many don't like Kerry? But we still live in the U.S (I am using the U.S citizens as examples; I know many people from many different countries come to this forum) If we used BS as a positive term instead of negative, BS probably won't even be a topic today. LOL Let's say I coin phrased the term, "Bull Turd" and I use it as an expletive often, today, our argument would probably be that BT would be unappropriate. that is why I think while we have the right to unlike certain phrases or terms, we should campaign for the ones we like and try and get the ones we don't outvoted. But if it DOES end up BT, BS, BM, BMW, FBI, CIA, UPS, FedEX, COD. Then, let's just remember that it is SIMPLY a name(yes, there will be arguments that names represent the spirit, soul, blah blah blah. OK, that is another subject in itself) If someone had named me Elvis, I don't want to go to Graceland and Sing. If someone had named me Charles Manson, I don't want to start a cult and murder folks If someone had named me Mario, I don't want to take a big hammer and fight bad guys in a virtual world where I ride Yoshi and have to save a Princess named "toadstool" side note, should toads be mad that there is a stool named after them? LOL my friend that died whose funeral that I laughed at. It wasn't out of disrespect. And it wasn't during inappropriate times. It was to myself, in the back, thinking of the fun things that we did, and knowing that he would've wanted me to. may I tell you about my friend? He was a short black male, who finally came out of the closet. I didn't know, nobody knew until his almost dying days...he kept it from everyone... when I visited him at the hospital, I was one of the few that continued to see him because he was MY friend. we talked about many things, one of them, words... his name was Ian. One of our conversations that we've laughed about was that his name was "Ian." A black male growing up in the world of Shakwans, Raekwans, and Rakeens. He was very teased when he was growing up with a "white name" and some even called him uncle Tom. Because of his "name" We also talked about black males using the "N" word in a positive way, he said this to me, " dude, for many many years, people use the "N" word in such a negative way, the black males must bring it back and make it positive so that whenever that word is used again, it will NOT hurt anyone anymore..." I learned so much in that simple conversation we had... he was such a good guy...I wished that he could've talked about his other troubles to us while he was alive... I am not sure if anyone remembers the Cultural Revolution of China during the Communist take over. Thousands of people died over simple words. let give you a simple example: The word "WONG" means king. It is written with three horizontal liness with one verticle line crossing all three while it ends at the top and bottom line without protrusion as noted below: http://www.orientaloutpost.com/images/wang.gif if you were to take away the top line, the word becomes "MUD" or "Stupid" in the Emporic China, if you were to use the latter word infront of an Emperor or King, you would be slaughtered, your body pulled by five horses in different directions for insulting the King/Emperor of China. not only you, your whole family, not just immediate, but cousins, uncles, aunts, grandfathers, anyone related to you could be killed or exiled. And not only that, but your close friends by association could suffer the same fate... all because ONE horizontal line was taken away... during the Cultural revolution, they've changed many Chinese words to suit and unoffend the officials, and anyone found using the original words, were killed, slaughtered, tortured... I know, I've had families that went through that, and it is stories told to us by the former generations to make us remember... with this said, I am going to leave this subject alone for myself. Think I've over stated already...LOL take care, all Dude |
howdy me friend. :D
nah...you keep posting and editing. now you do remember that lil'monkley is named after a state. ;) i hope she does go to visit there. hehehe...but it would be funny if she moved there. oh..and i expect only laughs, giggles and snorts at my funeral. :D |
seems as if we have negative vibes about slang/medical terms for BS and BM - why not choose a different connotation instead of focusing on ONLY one meaning for the abbreviations? At the site below, if you enter the term BM you will find 111 terms this acronym/abbreviation is used for. Choose something more pleasant, such as Bull Moose or Blue Moon or hey, how about a Bloody Mary? Have a Big Mac if you're hungry! For BS, there's 147 entries, including Bram Stoker, Bahamas, or Big Spender (the guy who shelled out for your Big Mac :D )
When I got married, my initials became BJ - I still married the guy! (We've been married 21 years :) A friend of mine has initials BS - we refer to each other as B1 (me) and B2 (she's younger, she 's stuck with it!) :D Member the song Sebastian sang in Little Mermaid, the lyrics "Don't worry, 'bout a ting, cause every little ting, is gonna be alright," this is one of those things, truly. Relax and enjoy - we can have fun with this! Call it the Bloody Menace or Beastly Stew. Beauty & Sorrow or Burning Madness. The same could be done for NeuroTalk should it be the name chosen - call it whatever you want. Nick of Time, Nice Talking, Nightmare's Torment, whatever. Make the initials stand for what YOU choose them to. http://www.acronymfinder.com/ |
Well, I just had to check in to see how my favorite was doing. I"m glad to see it's still ahead. At least all of the talk about BM's seemed to have turned some off of Brain Matters. And Dude is absolutely right, we've all got it saved to favorites anyway. By the way, Dude, talking about the change in one line of a character, or one letter of a word, I almost sent this with your name as Dud!
But getting back to the chart of the Great Name Race, this is rather like watching snails race! :D Hugs, |
Since it's in Doc John's hands, we don't have anything to worry about. :) All of us little workers ants did the footwork for him, now he can take the load off us, and we'll be fine.

Just a reminder... the poll closes in 2 days!
Personally -- and this is just me -- I wouldn't vote for or against a name just because of its initials. While I think that would be embarassing for a company to do something like that, we're a little group of people. It can always be abbreviated in creative ways, too, like BrainM or such. John |
