your mood icon disapears ( under your welcome, name) when you have messages. that's how i notice.

Yes, I no about the notifications but just wondered how to get to those when there is not a notification popup.

oh, just click on your name. your profile will open, along with the visitor messages.

you can use the little arrow tabs to hide them on your profile too. same with the photo albums.
