The more time I spend here (reading or posting) the more impressed I am with the way this site is managed and moderated. I think the social groups section is a perfect option for those of us who want to talk politics so, if that's the way it shakes out - and it looks as though it wil - that's more than fine by me.

Thanks mods.

I have discovered to my dismay that politics is one of the most polarizing subjects.

I don't know how people can debate or even learn if they just bicker.

So I'm staying out of it.

bumping this up again as it is an important poll and all should be able to see it and cast their vote. The poll closes tomorrow afternoon

just to clarify for those still confused:

Voting NO (option 1) here means you are voting to limit political discussion here.
That doesnt mean ban it.
It means only limited relevant discussion on the issues etc is ok on the boards, while specific discussion on the candidates, parties, etc and especially the partisan type posts will only be allowed in the social groups already in place, but not on the forums. The social groups can be found here
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/group.php

Voting YES (option 2) here means you are voting to allow the full and extended discussion, to continue on the forums (as well as in the groups)

Doctor John, I also would really like to thank you for allowing us to vote - we all really appreciate it!! I think the Moderators are doing a great job so I would really like to thank them also!

Me and my mom voted "No" also. We feel that this is an health forum, not a politial forum. The Members of the forum have enough going on with their own health without having to worry about all of the bickering about Polotics. We agree with the other members that have casted their votes, some of the Newbies may be a little scared off by all of the bickering about Political Discussions etc.

I think if you were to allow discussions about Polotics, it might be an idea to have a forum that is 'locked' and if any members wish to discuss Politics, they have to PM one of the Administrators/Moderators for access and they can only talk about Politics in that specific space on the forum. That way, hopefully members shouldn't be too upset about all of the Political Bickering going on as they wont be able to see it if they don't wish to.

Just our 2 cents worth, thanks once again for allowing us to vote!

I'm sure someone said it in a post before I did, but I think part of being an American is the ability to speak your mind.

As long as we keep it civil and realize everyone is expressing opions, and use the little 'P' icon and we don't resort to attacking our members here... I have no issue with it.

But then again...

NOTHING I read anywhere on a computer (or anywhere else) gets me riled up that much.

thanks Moose and to everyone who voted and expressed their opinion.

The poll has closed and shows that the majority of those who voted support a return to limited political discussion on the forums. 52:24

the social groups are available for extended political discussion and anyone wanting to start their own group is welcome too
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/group.php

thanks again to DocJohn for allowing members to decide on this

Default Oh Drat! [As Charlie Brown would say?]

I missed it! Could it be extended?
I've been slower than a turtle lately so I guess it's all my fault?
Thing is there are so many important issues this year: Wall St. how that relates to independent disability plans [their investments & payouts..etc] who will be covered under Medicare/Medicaid; SSDI and then, the old just plain getting by.
Issues are going to be affecting US faster and more deeply now than ever before!
It's a scary time to live with these pending variables and with that? I do believe I will crawl back into my shell for a bit.
s to all! - j

Hi J

those issues can still be discussed on the forums

it is only the partisan posts and the dissing of one side/candidate while lauding the other that we are requesting be limited on the boards

you can still have those "extended" discussions and debates on the social groups here. There is already one for election 2008 http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/group.php?groupid=10

members are welcome to make more groups as well
