I actually created The Gluten File first in a word document before I ever added it out as posts in a thread. So, I had most of it from the original creation (which I did myself). After the first crash when we lost everything, I had to reload it all out there a second time, and try to recapture some of what we had added along the way (since its original creation, I have been continually adding to it as I, and others, find interesting or new information).

So, when we crashed again, and after a suggestion by a fellow forum member, I decided to reload it out as a personal webpage...so hopefully I won't have to keep going through this recreation process over and over. This is the fourth generation of it (or should I say regeneration).

Sadly, we lost all of the great dialogue and testimonials trailing each informational thread. However, a lot can be found by googling a few well chosen key words and then checking the cached copy.

Cara

After the last crash (Aril 2005), we in the CD/GS forum were extremely nervous. There were many people that put many hours of work into researching, posting & organizing - having it disappear again did not appeal to us. As Cara said, she had her original info, plus I made backups of our most important collection [aka The Gluten File]. Between what Cara had and what I had [info that Cara didn't have], she was able to reconstruct a good chunk it. This is what you see now in The Gluten File

We maybe trying to reconstruct some our recipes from Google caches, but this is very labor intensive and time consuming.

I would recommend to others that have posted valuable knowledge out here: Keep your own backups! The number of hours of work that have been lost [what, 3 times now in our case??], is staggering. We have no control over this data once we put it out here in cyberspace. This lack of control, does not sit well with me. There's a saying in the computer biz...it's not a matter of IF your hardware is going to fail...it's a matter of WHEN. We pound this into our customer's head's all the time.

So...Back up, Back up, Back up!!

Some of you are questioning where donations went.

Reverett wants to publicize this in an effort to get the material. Correct me if I'm wrong please.

Asking a couple of questions: Just how hard has anyone tried to get any information? What other means of communicatiing with John can we try?

Reverett: what do you mean when you say put a writer on it? What would be the purpose?

thanks,
paula

ps dorry keep crackin those jokes - i love humor - it's the only way to go thru life.

I am going to guess Paula that what Rick means by putting a writer on this is to publisize the BT crash and the mystery that surrounds it and the lack of comunication from JL..That would probably force a response/explanation from him

Default Ah Steve...

...you know me too well! That's exactly what I want, JL would have contacted us by now if he cared. HE DOES NOT CARE and we are in the position of a spurned child. Some will react with bewilderment, some with anger, and some will make excuses for him.

The facts are that he is seen regularly on websites where he wants to be. Time constraints? Do you think DocJohn has a lesser burden than JL? How much time has DJ given to this community of strangers? Choose whatever reaction you wish but, for goodness sake, forego the excuses. It's so undignified.

I do hope to see this story written. But I would prefer that it end with the wayward pop showing up at the hospital to donate the kidney with the final scene being a handshake of forgiveness and farewell.
