usually the demo machines are labeled as /or open box == discounted...

I sure wouldn't want to pay full price for any demo machine...

I hope your new one is perfect.

My machine wasnt marked demo, and the machine is in short supply. My store called another store to ask if they had one ready and available, and got turned down 5 times before locating one that was ready to go. The store is "assuming" that because this machine is in short supply they simply pulled it off the shelf, and that have apologized over and over. They are going out of their way to make it right. I am still mad, but the consiliatory tone helps.

Now, I get to play on my old lap top till the new machine is in, loaded, and triple tested.

I NEVER buy demo machines. This is a high end machine and unlike the mid or lower range/price products that they keep in full supply, the high end machines are not huge sellers, so they are limited on how many were in stock. They have been surprised by how many folks were willing to spend the extra money to get the higher end machine, and are now back ordered. Its just not my week for technology. At least I have a laptop to use.

I spoke to the store manager who apologized, and promised to look into it. He called me back in one hour to tell me the tech suspects this machine was a demo or a returned item. He was not happy. He went on to say store policy is to NOT push thru a returned, or demo product unless they are labled as such and also discounted. he located a machine in NY and was having it overnighted to his store. He would personally over see the machine, and have all the items I wish installed free of charge, as well as a free inspection, and all windows updates. He threw in a free year of Nortons antivirus, and agreed to install my office products for free. He promised a thorough check up on the unit and will promise me that the machine will be NEW, and working properly. I got all sorts of coupons for free tune ups, and so forth from the tech guys.

I will have my machine by Mon noon, and I am happy with the outcome and the way in which all was handled. it turns out the windows 7 in the machine was corrupted and someone "attempted" a registry clean up. He knew that it wasnt possible for a "new" machine to have so many registry errors, and issues. So...my machine is coming, and I got a 10% discount off of the purchase price paid.

I have never seen such a thing, but am glad it was well handled. Thanks for the support.

It sounds like they're taking good care of you to get it all straightened out. Good customer service speaks volumes, so it sounds like it will all turn out well.

Wow! I'm pleased you've got such a good deal because of your woes.

Now I (sort of) wish there had been something wrong with this one I bought last year, new.

Sort of wish, but not really. I doubt I'd have coped as calmly as you seem to have Dej.

What is the model of your high end machine?
I am a techno geek and love to look at computers stuff LOL.

Right now I have been eyeing the new SSD's, man it would be nice to get a couple of those and run them in a raid configuration....they are blazing fast.

Usually people turn up the processors, or buy the fastest processor, and brag about speed. The difference in speed is almost imperceptible with processors, and a bit noticeable when it comes to memory speeds. But these new SSD hard drives are so fast you see the difference immediately. Cant wait to try one!!

Its an HPe9240f its a nice machine, and I am very happy with it since receiving a NEW one, instead of someone's return.

The only complaint is the 5200RPM which could have been boosted to 10, but...hard to find that.

I love this thang!

That is a nice machine, Blue Ray! I have been dreaming of adding a blue ray.

You could always upgrade the hard drive, use the slow one for saving all your files. Remember the first pavilions? We thought those were good, the one you have now is smokin !! Compared from then and now, and even smokes most of the better computers today! LOL!

Thanks for all the help
Wow, just goes to show you that Windows still has the same problems it always has had! I would just bring it back and get a mac! I love my mac. It is such a great and reliable computer, that is so simple to use. Plus the customer service you get with macs is unbelievable. I highly recommend getting a mac, I currently enjoy my imac which I haven't had any problems with.

several of the applications i use WONT mesh with a mac. I had considered one, but its 3x the price, and was not as fast, or capable with graphics. it did have some nice lil movie making programs, but windows has a very comparable product now. If mac was able to cross the great divide and talk to my services that I currently use, I may have considered it, but till then...I am a windows gal all the way.

A neighbor just got a new mac and after having been a windows girl her whole life found it to be a learning curve, but caught on quickly. She had to buy a new suite of office type programs. pricey! She can afford it, so I dont begrudge her that. She only got the mac cause it was one of the rare few computers that would talk to her 3k dollar camera system.

I wish mac would come down in price, and up in accessability. They do have a great service of teaching programs that you take on line for free once you own a mac, and tons of great tech support. I will give them that.
