Now I must be losing my mind. I'm sure of it. Earlier today I posted this same question on this board and it is GONE!!!

Don't know where it went, but it's GONE!!

Any, every time I turn on the computer, I get this pop up thing that tells me to install PC SIMPLE COMMUNICATIONS CONTROLLER.

I looked this up on the internet but don't understand what this is, and do I install it, do I keep hitting the cancel button?

Now how come this appears all of a sudden? Never saw this before.

Any help is wonderful.

From my searches last night , it seems to be a legitimate pop up.

I don't know why it is showing up for you now though..
Maybe something got scrambled or deleted recently...and now the system is letting you know this file is missing...

It might have happened when the computer was worked on recently.

Another option is to try a system restore, back to before the pop up showed up...


you can find more details on the Microsoft site or HP site - in the support sections or just do a search on those sites.

you can find info on stopping the pop up also if you don't want to install the controller. or if it keeps popping up.

You do have Microsoft/Windows updates enabled - correct??
They usually are released on Tuesdays/Wednesdays and should be set to automatically install for you.

Well, this morning, when I turned on the computer, it CAME UP AGAIN. So I just clicked next, and it began doing SOMETHING, all the little green thingees going from left to right, so it installing SOMETHING.

Then it finished and up popped this little message

"unable to install modem".

NOT IF MY MODEM IS NOT INSTALLED, HOW ON EARTH AM I GETTING ON THE INTERNET!!!!

Explain THIS ... I dare ya!!

must be a windows system glitch .. I was hoping it would just fix itself for you..

You only need the modem stuff for your actual computer if you are using dial up.

you're on DSL right?

So instead of plugging into your modem card {smaller phone size plug} in the computer you are plugging into the Ethernet plug { larger size but like a phone plug connector}

The DSL modem is a separate thing from your computer modem card that is inside of the computer box.

I think Jo*Mar's suggestion of using the System Restore might solve your problem. If you have never used it before, you will wonder how you ever lived without it.

I think you are using Windows XP. If so, here are the steps:

1. Click Start
2. Choose Help and Support (on right)
3. Choose "Undo changes to your computer with System Restore"
4. Select "Restore my computer to an earlier time", Click Next
5. You should now see a window with 2 boxes: a calendar on the left and a box on the right with today's date. The dates in bold on the calendar have Restore Points. Generally your computer will automatically set a restore point every day. (It will also set a Restore Point before some software installations.)
6. Think back to the first time the message popped up, and click on a date a couple of days before (make sure it is bold).
7. In the box on the right you should now see a "System Checkpoint" highlighted.
8. Click Next. Your computer will start the Restore process. This will take a long time, and it will reboot. After the reboot, don't be alarmed if it takes longer to start-up than normal. This is part of the Restore process.

Hopefully that will take your computer back to a date the driver was still properly installed.

Hint: Before installing new software, I always set a Restore Point. That way, if there is a problem with the software, I can restore the computer to the point before the new software installed. You would do this at Step 3, by choosing "Create a Restore Point"
