I just took a walk and I passed a computer store and they are having a sale on HP printers. $49.00 with two ink cartridges. This HAS to be NEWER than my HP DESKJET 882C.
The person said "you have to have a USB port", I said "Oh, no parallel" And she said "no only USB" Now I have things plugged into the back of my computer in their various ports. My webcam, my mouse, etc. I just stuck the camera in the back of my computer and made a video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MliPQRHekoo whatever is back there, do you see any available USB ports? I just noticed on the front of my computer tower. There is a USB 2.0. I have an HP Media Center PC and on the front of my tower there are several slots. One says SmartMedia/xD, one is MMC/SD, Compact Flash I/II (which I gather is a flash drive? then there is a slot that says Memory Stick/PRO, then there is a slot that says USB 2.0 I can use that 2.0 thing for a printer, right? Thanks much melody Because if I can get a new HP printer and it comes with 2 ink cartridges, why would I pay $30 and $20 respectively for cartridges for my old printer? Makes sense to replace it, no??

Yes those small rectangle slots are all USB & the ones in front too.
I use the rear ones for printer and scanner -things that are plugged in all the time, and the easy to reach one for things you might want to use for a short time and then remove again. Ipod, video cam or digital camera etc. And if you ever find you need more USB slots they sell USB hubs - just plug in the cord & you can have a little box with many more USB connectors. all kinds of styles of those - http://www.google.com/images?q=USB+h...Q&ved=0CAgQpwU

Here is a nerd-tastic pic of petty much all of the sockets in the last 20 years (and more) - you will see the USB one up the top.
![]() You could use your new printer to make a poster out of it! ![]() Actually you probably better not as it will eat up all your colour cartridges! ![]() ![]() Last edited by RobinM; 09-18-2010 at 07:25 AM. |

Someone once told me there are two kinds of USB. I don't know what kind I have in back, but the one on the front of my computer says USB 2.0 I would surmise either the 2.0 or any other usb I have is acceptable for use with a new printer. Thanks very much for the computer lesson. Melody

There are now 3 types of USB. All have identical connections, just the later ones are faster.
There are 1.x, 2.0 and 3.0 If you are using a computer made in the last 5 years, it is pretty much guaranteed that it will be a 2.0 (which is easily fast enough for printing). ![]() Bed time reading! |

Hey, Jo, when you read this, I think this graphic on this thread is a good candidate for a stickey or within one of the existing sticky.
