go to alans saved bookmarks file folder and right click on it - then go to properties - click that - near the top area it should say Type of file or file type..
what does it say in that section? json or firefox document? or try importing them into IE first and then from IE use import to get them to FF. For IE just use File in the main bar of IE and go down to import/export.
