I happened to be listening to Glen Beck while driving to the store this morning, he was on the soap box about Google too.
But I'm sure many of the other big name search engines collect some sort of data and store it for whatever use they want... ![]() I like that with the duckduckgo you can use the drop down menu (next to the search button) to search anon and still access google & bing & youtube etc... [!Bang DuckDuckGo enables you to search 100s of other sites directly. Just use this dropdown next to the search box. As you use it, your most frequented sites will automatically be displayed at the top. Or you can type in a command like '!amazon bags', which will take you to Amazon.com and auto-search it for 'bags'. We call these commands !bangs, and this syntax works for 100s of sites: Most big sites work, e.g. !youtube (see full list below) Most generic keywords work too, e.g. !images There are also shorter versions, e.g. !g (google) !i (images) !yt (youtube) !ducky or '! ' or '\' will take you to the first result. !safeoff will run a search with safe search off. ] For email , I'm pretty sure Thunderbird is more secure than Outlook or outlook express. but I haven't researched on it for ages, been a fan of Mozilla/Tbird and never went back to Outlook Express. I just prefer having my saved emails & addresses stored on my home computer and not on some email website online.

Hello,
There is a lot of flak about Google and privacy issues, changes in March I think. |

I own a domain name and have been in the process of migrating from my GMail account to my domain e-mail account. It's tough though. The majority of my non-work e-mails these days are updates from Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, or some other kind of account I have. Other times it's invoices for online services that I use.
Very rarely do I get a "personal" e-mail any more, since my generation uses all different types of services for personal communication. Quote:
Their privacy policy highlights what they can and can't use your data to do. With targets ads for example, authorized third parties don't have direct access to your data but can still use your data to target advertisements to you. They go through what's called an Application Interface that allows Google to redirect content (IE advertisements on your Google Search or above your Gmail inbox) without allowing them to ever view or store your data. It is pretty dangerous when a personality like Glenn Beck hops on the radio and spews misinformation or paints an incomplete picture to send people into mass hysteria. |

I've always thought people put too much information on the internet, maybe I'm just weird as far as personal privacy is concerned.
LOL, No mass hysteria here, ![]()

I don't feel especially paranoid but I certainly am annoyed.
I go to a horse pedigree site that 'allows ads'. I get a lot of truck pop ups because my sis searched before she bought a new one. I go to medical sites a lot and get pop ups for sales related to that.. My state recently legalized gay marriage, I missed the news and was wondering if it passed and looked it up online. Next time at the horse site I was informed 'gay people in my town wanted to meet me'. My sis has an account with Ancestry.Com and Ive been doing some research there, now I get hopping pop ups from them all the time. I think its offensive, 'Big Brother' may not be watching but 'Big Corporation' seems to be. To me its very offensive to be blasted with unsolicited ads. Judi |

Oh, we are soooooo boring. Not worth it to spy upon!
LOL---- I have yet to see any cat toy ads directed at me! But I looked at Woman Within once after Xmas and those ads showed up on MSN games for weeks! I stopped going to MSN in fact.

Yup, it's creepy seeing ads on half the websites I visit for stuff I randomly looked up, often for somebody else. If my techie son comes to tinker on my computer, he'll end up seeing old lady stuff he really doesn't want to know about, and stuff that will really make him wonder.
