Way ahead of you. Didn't do a thing.

What next?

click Help and then About Firefox to check that.

Also Tools & Add ons - check those for updates...

Or you can re down load FF from Mozilla and re install it - right over the top of FF you have already, it will keep all your same info & settings.

[B]Oh, does the sound work with IE or Chrome browsers???

If it works fine then it would be a setting/add ons or something with the browser you are using and not with the computer.

But if it is a problem on all browsers, then it is something with your computer or windows.
I don't know if you tried all or some of the things I mentioned??
sound
FF yes or no
IE yes or no
chrome you said no correct?

or try a totally new browser from a fresh download & install - like Opera, slim browser or Comodo dragon (very much like chrome)
and see if one of those works or not..??

I've used all at one time or another , except the last one.

I'd try one at a time to test it , then remove/uninstall if you don't like it and try the next one. But if none of those make a difference , it is something with your computer that is scrambled.

You might run some antivirus scans first to make sure all is clean before adding more programs..

How on earth can it be something on my computer when I can watch all the What's my Line Videos on youtube, all sounds play fine on my computer. But then when it comes to movies on youtube or anything on hulu, well forget it.

And this happens with firefox, chrome, internet explorer. Same thing.

I am now going to test a Harry Potter DVD. I have NEVER watched a dvd on my computer yet.

Will get back to you.

thanks very much

Well, I found out WHY!!!!

We always use headphones (plugged into the front of the tower). Because Alan is slightly hard of hearing, we never use the same volume. So (and we've always used these), I had an inline volume control thing attached to the headphones. The headphones themselves did not come with a volume controller so this was the easiest way to raise or lower the volume (then we didn't have to go to the bottom right of the monitor and adjust the volume)

I have been using this inline volume control thing for YEARS. And all of a sudden it doesn't work with youtube movies or hulu??

Well, just now I unplugged the headphones, took off the inline control thing, plugged the headphones themselves directly to the headphone jack and guess what??

I CAN NOW HEAR EVERYTHING, EVEN MY YOUTUBE VIDEOS AND HULU.

SUCCESS!!! Ah, life is good.

So here's my query.

I am so used to using an inline control volume adjuster, does this mean I can never use one again? What about if I find a set of headphones that come with an inline volume thing built in? I used to be able to find these but not anymore. It was so easy for me to use this inline volume adjuster.

Hey, no big deal, I'll simply lower the volume manually when i sit and Alan can adjust it when he sits down at the computer.

THANK GOD.

And thank all of you for all the cool suggestions.

How silly. It was that stupid thing all the time. lol
