Do you shut off your computer every night or leave it on all the time?
just wondering - may not have anything to do with this problem.

I do know I tried for a whole day to get the quick time player to work for a online school site on IE and I gave up , turned off the pc and the next time {day or two later} I tried it the darn thing worked.

Hi Jo:

I shut off my computer every night. But that would have absolutely nothing to do with storing of passwords. This much I know.

It must have everything to do with the security tab thing, and trusted sites. And also. when i was prompted to type in the URL's of the trusted sites, how come it demanded that I type in https and not http??

Why the S after the http???? The website is http NOT https!!!!

Very confusing.

Also, how come it worked (it allowed me to store passwords for a good 15 mnutes) and then I tried going back into this forum and it asked me for my user ID and password again, and the same thing happened with the other forums.

I usually go on The INternet Movie Database and their soap opera message boards. Do you know how long it takes to put in your user ID and password every time you want to do this??? My goodness, I wound up throwing up my hands last night and saying "I give up". Until I can figure out what the heck is going on, well, I don't know.

Now I can't call up Verizon DSL because they will tell me "this is a computer problem" and not a Verizon DSL problem." and they would be right.

There has to be something I'm not doing right here.

I shall endeavor (with the help of you genius people) to ultimately achieve my goal......and that is........STORE USER ID's AND PASSWORDS!!!!

Dramatic, ain't I????? lol

How about giving the Mozilla Firefox browser a try?

you can still have IE too- but it will just give you a second browser to use for just these kinds of things.

It's free, secure and I will say as far as loading webpages- much faster on firefox than IE- at least on my machine anyway.

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

all you do is download it & save it where you can find it - then double click the saved file to install it
- it will ask if you want to import settings, bookmarks etc from IE- it will make desktop icons for you {or ask if you want them}
follow the prompts till finished.

To use it instead of IE just double click the icon and give it a try.

Jo:

Do you think that it is Internet Explorer that is interfering with my not being able to store passwords. But how can that be??

I mean, say I go on the internet, and my browser is internet explorer, and I have all my links in my favorite places.

Every place I now go, I have to input user ID's and passwords. So that means that these websites are not putting cookies on my computer, right?? Would changing browsers affect the cookie thing??? I feel like I'm talking about cooking and recipes!!!!!!

lol

Thanks

It could be something with the IE a weird glitch- trying a different browser would give you an idea if it is your system {windows/IE/ settings/anti virus conflicts etc}
if you try the firefox and it still has the same problem then we know it isn't only an IE problem.
but if firefox works for you then we know it most likely is a IE setting or glitch

Just a simple way to narrow it down a bit.

Or- if you did any kind of system updates or changes lately you can try to do a System Restore??
You won't lose any info - it just sets the windows system back to the time/date that you set.
the restore points available should be highlighted - it's pretty easy to do and each step explained
to get to it- go to
Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/and down the list to System Restore
If you try this close all other open programs first.

Hi.

Well, I did the system restore (to October 1st).
Forget it. Gave me all sorts of problems with my Outlook Express and so I undid the restore.

Now my Outlook Express is giving me the same pop up window when I try and switch identities.

It says "Pop 3 server is not responding"

This is most frustrating.

And I still can't store passwords.

woe is me.

lol
