Default VISTA. The nightmare.

Anyone know if an attorney or lawfirm has filed a class action?

I received my 'puter as a holiday gift and asked Q's about software, and I find: I am replacing program after program (that piecemeal effect). It's not inexpensive to do so.

How can a company hold a monopoly on an O/S and yet, millions have invested countless billions in software with EULAs that are rendered moot with VISTA??? (EULA? End User License Agreement.)

Something is so seriously wrong.

I've already re-purchased 5 programs. Why? Because the compatibility mode just does not work within VISTA.

Does MS think people are so lame we don't know we've been had?

If anyone knows of an atty. who has filed class action, please, PM me. If not, I'll locate an atty. This is so costly.

I have a beautiful desktop system, but... it is upstairs. Prob. is: I can't get to it without taking hours to crawl upstairs. I am disabled. I am so furious about losing software and spending tons of money on replacements.

I'll write every letter and address all the people needed; I've testified in the past, so I can sit before standing committees and do it again if it means change may result and others will not have to endure as I have.

Why should we, as individuals, pay for End-Use agreements, only to see it all negated because MS switched over to VISTA. Why don't the programs purchased work? NTFS iS NTFS so the (older) programs should work that had worked on NTFS; VISTA NTFS is a roll backward not a step forward.

Can y'all tell... I am not happy. I am sick of 'puter makers claiming proprietary rights and costing people.

I am thinking, a program that once worked on NTFS should work again, since that is the VISTA O/S. I am thinking, the reverse compatability mode should also work... or why is it there???

To top off my boo-hoo state of mind: I have no heat. Despite what some may wish to think: It's not always sunny in California. It's quite cold where I live (high 20s to 30s some nights). And, the last time my heater went out: I ended up labeled "disabled." It only tweaks me more to have the system go out again, while I'm paying for replacement software, thanks to VISTA being the only O/S offered on new computers.

This has gotta be the worse nightmare.

What can happen next? I already attained a wheelchair to show for the effects of no heat a few seasons ago. I get to crawl around thanks to not having Bruno lifts, etc..

But... I shall remind myself the upside is? I don't have to make like a kitty and wipe my ***** on the grass?

yuck how frustrating!

If it was me I would be tempted to format the Vista and install my XP CD on the thing.

One reason we bought a refubished laptop - it had XP pro on it.

Jo, I think, possibly, you know: I also hold the CDs for XP O/S.

Herein lies what will be a prob.: Forever overwriting costly O/S on newer computers that come with VISTA and x-amount of apps. bundled. Kinda of like, by Jan. 2009, analog will be out-the-window, so-to-speak. Eventually, costs will still toll or a computer will be reliant on applications that are outdated.

To pay a premium for a computer that does not support programs intended for machines with an O/S by MS makes no sense. It's a rip-off.

Right now, however, I am so tired.

I probably should have stated: It's not terribly bleak. At least some software makers are providing patches .

I've had Vista discs on my desk for almost a year now, waiting to be installed. I've heard so many horror stories, I don't wanna!

Thumbs down

oh Bobbi how my oldest son shares your sentiments

his story in brief:

he had a laptop purchased from HP that crashed non stop because of overheating and failed hard drives

after 3 years of paying for extended warranties to have them continuously take it back for repairs blah blah blah
they eventually agree it's a lemon and so say they will give him a new one

happy kid till...................

new one arrives with Vista cuz that is MS enforcement on all new HP laptops. Thankfully they had installed all the basic software on it for him so he dint have to upgrade etc....but.....he is unable to run much of his speciality stuff on it nor can he download the drivers he needs he uses a lot of advanced digital music programs for his college major, senior year

he says Vista alone runs on sooooo much 'puter juice that it is a nightmare

his list of anti Vista complaints grows longer and longer by the day.......

we have stayed with XP on all the rest of our computers

My understanding, prior to getting this 'puter with VISTA installed, is that most probs. to possibly anticipate would be associated with "upgrading" the O/S to VISTA from, say, XP. At the same time, however, I'd also read that MS released a patch/patches that were alleged to address conflict "issues."

Now, as you can see, my thinking has been revised; I totally understand that probs. with programs are not restricted solely to revising the O/S and installing VISTA on an older 'puter or a 'puter with XP, etc., previously installed.

In time, I suspect, MS will have all this "stuff" ironed-out. For now, however, if someone has a computer that is working perfectly fine with XP, my suggestion is: don't install VISTA at this time. Let MS get the "kinks" worked out first.

Basically, I'd go by the adage: If it ain't broke... (and VISTA sure won't fix it; so I'd leave it alone so it continues working).

they did the same thing when they went to XP the wins 98 software didnt work, even if you went into programs properties to ignor xp most of them didnt work i have a drawer full of some good software from winds 98 that is useless, we got vista on our lap top and kids but xp on desktop still not changing the desktop,

and then if anyone have read get two gigs of mem for operating vista one works if you are not multi multi tasking, it freezes, maybe they should call the guy who created windows and ask him what they are doing wrong, now lets see that would be the guy who owns apple right???

sense my sarcasm, hey they are not the only monopoly, check all the food comps buying out other ones. or good old MA Bell the govt showed them made them break up all the companies and now at&t, aka ma bell has bought back most of their companies
