Question photo DVD for watching on TV with DVD player??

Has anyone done this before?

I can't seem to find the right program to make a DVD that will play on the TV DVD player.
I can make DVDs & CDs - but they only play on the computer????

so far I tried
Picasa
Ashampoo
downloading a trial of Nero right now...
