All of a sudden, when I booted up my computer this morning, there is is message on my screen.
HP REMINDER Your PC contains a program that creates a set of recovery discs. blah blah blah. Then it asks me: "do you want to create a set of recovery discs? I am then prompted to choose: 1. Yes, 2. No. 3. DO NOT REMIND ME AGAIN. I tried Xing out (at the top right of this window). It would not go away. I tried choosing one of the options. It would not go away. It also looks as it only part of the message is being showed. Like an incomplete message. but the minus, plus and x are up at the top of the message. It's a rectangle box right in the middle of my destop. I can move this box all around, but I can't seem to get it of of my screen. And I did the control, alt delete thing. It brings up "HP updates....running." I clicked on "end task". It did absolutely nothing. We just ran an anti-virus and an anti-spyware program. It said Nothing was wrong. I can move that box around and access all the icons on my desktop, my outlook express, etc. I can go on the internet. I just want this stupid thing off of my screen. I tried re-booting my computer. It came back. Help....Anyone??? lol Melody

UPDATE. here's what I just did. I went to Start, run. typed in MSCONFIG. Then I chose startup. I de-selected several things, including HP UPDATES. I then clicked on okay, and restarted. When it booted up, I got a message saying "you have chosen to run startup in diagnostic mode" ???????????? Please choose normal startup to undo any changes. then the Startup message thing appeared on the screen. I chose "normal startup" and hit okay. It then told me I had to reboot my computer. I did so. THE PC REMINDER THING CAME BACK. oh this is so annoying. mel

Did you already make the recovery discs?
Maybe you need to make a new set now that it updated??? I would go ahead and do it just so you have them for the future if needed. you could go on to the HP site and see what it says about it, if you don't want to make the new set of recovery discs.

I think it would be a good idea to make the disks- it would be so much handier for you to restore your system if you ever have a major crash or hardware malfunction.
I finally did full backups of my system after my problems this summer, got tired of starting everything from scratch. My daughters laptop {hp/compaq} "told" to us right at the beginning to make restore disks.

I have been looking into the making of recovery discs. It said to either use cd's or dvds. I have a LightSribe DVD+ writer/cd-writer. I assume this is the drive that I put the disc in. So do I buy cds, or dvds. And I don't want to buy the wrong kind because on the internet it said "sometimes the wrong kind of cd is used or the wrong kind of dvd is used. I am thoroughly confused. I understand the process of doing the recovery. You make discs, label them (for example) 1. of 8 recovery discs. you pop them in one at a time, you wait until one is finished being writed to and then it will prompt you to insert another disc. I understand this. What I don't know yet is exactly what to buy. do I buy a dvd (they say writing to a dvd is faster than a cd). So what kind of dvd do I buy? Do I go into the computer store and say "I want to make recover discs for my HP Media Center" and the guy will know what to sell me? jeez. (and that stupid reminder thing is still there). Alan just takes his mouse and keeps it on the bottom under the task bar (I think it's called the task bar). God, I feel so stupid. Melody

I'd use the DVDs, the store should be able to help you get the right kind, take your computer manual and/or write down the - LightSribe DVD+ writer/cd-write - info - just to make sure they get you the right kind.
You might be able to save the info to a flash drive, but might be simpler to use the DVDs since that is the default set up for the system. I'm sure it takes you step by step when you do it.
