Default Gateway Laptop Memory Question

My laptop is telling me I need more memory. How and where do I go about purchasing this and how is it installed?

Also, where do I look on my computer to see how many ram I have?

Thanks!

Do you have a lot of programs running at the same time, {icons in the task bar at lower right?} all those are using memory.
If you right click the My computer icon it should tell you on the general tab that opens how much ram you have installed.

how old is your laptop and what OS does it have XP, Vista or other?

I'll try to find more info about it and post it when I do.

you can also try a ram optimizer program, here's a listing of some free ones at cnet.com

I also use Glary Utilities for whole system optimize/cleaning- also top rated by cnet editors-

I have 248 mb ram installed. on tab it show mainly 2 printers, a picture package, synaptic pointing device.

Not really sure how much memory I have to start with. Where does it tell that?

Thanks for the info. I will research it now. I appreciate the help!

Default Jo,

I just wanted to thank you for the info. I've installed the Free RAM XP Optimizer. It has made such a huge difference. I have had NO MORE LOW MEMORY messages.

Thank you so much!!!!
