Question Anybody else noticing problems with FireFox Bookmarks?

I was doing some cleanup/organizing in my bookmarks and some wouldn't delete or move.

Spent hours trying things and searching for the answer online.

Seems this last update of FireFox has some issues in this area.

Finally got things back to almost normal, but was wondering if anyone else had this problem.

Shocked

Yes, come to mention it... Our laptop upstairs, lost some of its bookmarks (doesn't have many). But most still work. It is odd how the lost ones just skip around the list.

This unit is unaffected so far. (that I know of that is..I have a jillion on this unit and only use a few daily.--the rest are reference)

you might want to do a bookmark backup so you have them saved somewhere else on the computer just in case they all mess up.

I backed up, and exported, all of bookmarks to IE and Opera {just downloaded Opera yesterday because of this}.

I tried the fixes from the Mozilla site but none of them helped.
So after I backed up and exported my bookmarks to both other browsers.
I tried to re download FF but it kept coming up as corrupted...

so I tried a system restore which it said it couldn't do either ... so i was wondering what the heck, is going on.

but after the sys restore did it's reboot and told me it didn't do a restore- then everything was working normally again LOL.
So either way it seems to be fixed
and just to be sure there was no other problems ,I ran 2 scanners and my reg cleaners.

crazy machines LOL.

well I spoke too soon or jinxed myself..
my bookmarks work and are there when i click the toolbar but if i go to organize them nothing showed at all

so i followed the info about making a new profile for FF and then imported the bookmarks from IE and my back up file - that worked
and I still can go back to my old profile if I need to see something or whatever.
I gives you the option to choose the old or the new profile when you start FF.

So if you have any major annoying problems bothering you I can help you though the new profile set up if this link doesn't help you.
It's easier than it sounds.
Basically you copy this - firefox.exe -ProfileManager
and then close FF and paste that into the "Run" area hit OK and go from there.

I'd guess it's something to do with the last upgrade you did.

I remember way back with the upgrade to Firefox 2, a lot of us were having problems with our bookmarks as well.

Red face

Firefox has just sent out a new upgrade to fix the bookmark problems. My hubby just downloaded tonight.

It is odd that not all my bookmarks were affected. It seems only the ones that went to sites with subcategories/sub addys.

The eagle forum I visit daily blew out. So I made a new one for their index...the previous one went to one thread within the forum.
Same for BT...I lost that one too.

But NT was not affected on either this laptop or the Dell I use downstairs! Both of these computers have a link to the index here.

I'll never really understand computers... it is just too much for me some days! sigh!

Post "Welcome to our World" ... (humorous - but truth...)

Ok I am unsure if y'all are using Microsoft Windows Vista,
but if you are - the problem is not because of FF - but
rather Microsoft Vista!

Ever since MS Vista came out with their Service Pack 2,
it has been a "nightmare from hell" - I am dead serious!

WHY?

It had disabled services that I wanted enabled
It reverted services that are supposed to be enabled to manual
It had deleted bookmarks (thank goodness I had it backed up)
PLUS - it added some Windows 7 to the Vista!

WHY in the world would the Service Pack 2 have Win 7
in it? After it "screwed" up my Security, Programs, IE 8,
FF, etc - I spent hours on my computers putting it all back
together and guess what?

31 freaking updates to fix that Svc Pk 2! All in one day?

Right back to square one again (see above rant) - I was
starting to get pretty ...

It was messing up everything - it disorganized my neat and
tidy bookmarks - and deleted some of them; and above all things,
Win Live Mail? Arggghhh! It made Freddy Kruger or Jason look
like "nice guys" ...

Having no choice but to delete the AOL browser (rendered
worthless), stuck with IE 8 (and to pronounce it I ee ate, some
how was sort of "fitting" (well to me it was at the moment)...)
and FF. It was driving me up to the wall - trying to find a
browser that was functional without some stupid ERROR!

*sigh*

Then comes along with more updates?

My gosh - how many fixes for that Svc Pk 2?

Then comes 11 updates ....

Now in dire straights - "To update or not to update, that
is the question!"

Being in a lock-jaw state; must had lost presence of mind,
never knowing if I did the right thing or wrong thing - but
*KERPOW!* Ending up right back to square one again (if
there were ever a time someone literally wanted to throw
a computer out the windows, this might had been a very good
time to do it) - however, it did not do "much damage" as it
had done so earlier ~ so it was easier to put it back in its
own original state.

I will be honest, I had been tempted to "Roll back" and get
out of there; but I am glad I didn't do it - then FF came along
with this new update and the IE 8 also has a new fix as well,
and this part here I am not able to explain.

What I could not retrieve in my bookmarks, suddenly reappears?
(I had been in my registry editor, and they were there, but trying
to get them to manifest "out here" was a different story)...

I admit this one thing - I am slightly amused to find my bookmark
settings all right back to where it originally was before the Svc Pk
2 came along and did it's own "Hocus Pocus".

When reviewing the History in the Update list, it is mind boggling
for the total of 52 updates / fixes - just from Microsoft alone.
Insomuch I have now renamed my Microsoft Updates to:
Microsoft Screwup Updates (Everyone thinks it's hilarious)...

No one needs to comment on that.

Shocked

No vista here, luckily! We have the XP version on both computers.

Not all bookmarks were affected equally either.
Just another mystery.

gotta love it

I now have 2 FF profiles - one has all the bookmarks working correctly and one has all my saved passwords

Maybe I need to make a third one to get passwords & bookmarks all in one place LOL
importing/exporting isn't fixing either of those problems...

I did download Flock and everything imported just fine so maybe I will uninstall FF and reinstall and import from Flock.
sounds like a Monday project LOL.
i guess i could just use Flock
