Oh boy! I used old glue stuff and it didn't set....now I'm painstakingly taking off the pieces that didn't set and cleaning them off to redo....

These are wonderful! I love the tables, especially the lotus. The dragonflies, oh my! I bet the shipping to Seattle would kill me. . . . but I would love to see one of these up close, if you know what I mean!
I paint and draw, but mosaics I have never tried. Maybe I will have to give them the ol' college try one of these days. . . .

Postage to US from Australia is $13.90 by sea. Mosaic costs $30.00. Let me know if you are interested. Have a few left, but could make one for you if you would like a particular one. They take me about 4 hours, all up.

Sealing the grout helps to avoid staining and perhaps a little weather proofing, but not much. There may be heavier duty sealers available though. These tables have been outside in the weather and have suffered. Grout has cracked and bits broken off. This may be because the table top expands and contracts at a different rate to the tiles and grout. So they are not weatherproof.

Peter B, Your lovely mosaics inspired me to start mosaics. I bought a kit to get an idea of how to do things. Then I hope to do more.

It's a great hobby, like meditating in that you leave cares behind and get engrossed in it. If you can, attend a mosaics workshop. They will show you a few tricks and tips. Also, get some books from the library. If i can help at all, I'd be very pleased to assist. Go smashing!

I've done mosaics for about 6 years now. My first project was a kitchen table - it was either tinker with it or toss it. Since I've done oodles of bird houses, tables, magazine racks, mirrors, shelves, stools, picture frames and stepping stones. Tables and frames are my favorite.
I did the bar counter in my kitchen and the downstairs bathroom counter. I prefer to use plates that I find in thrift stores. Finding just the right plates is nearly as fun as completing the project. I almost always use sanded grout as I just don't like working with unsanded. Kathy |
