Once final concern: When I eat -- something as simple as a banana and it gets over to the extraction site, it bothers me. It is better after the salt water rinse but can this be a sign of infection or is this simply just raw skin that needs to "toughen" up in that hole OR until that hole closes up? I am so scared of an infection that this is consuming me! It has been 4 weeks today and IS getting much better....not sore all the time -- maybe once/twice a day.

Hi Kris,

It is normal for the surgical site to be sensitive to the pressure of eating on it, even a banana. So I would suggest that you avoid eating on that side until the wound has closed completely. Just for comparison..... if it were an open wound on your hand, you wouldn't touch it right..... same thing in the mouth ;-)
