I posted a new thread to be sure you would see it and also so others could see what a huge effort you put into helping people on this board.
You are an extremely knowledgeble individual in your field. Your dentists should truly be grateful that they have such a dedicated and well informed assisstant. It is nice to see personnel that are knowledgeable in the dental office and take pride in their work. I am confident you are a real asset to the dental office where you work.
Thank you so much for all your posts and recommendations. I appreciate your concern and words of warning re: my treatments. I was not aware about the vascular nature of the gums and risk of infection. This is the first time I ever had inside the mouth injections in about 15 years. The other time was when I had teeth pulled and it irritated my nerves. I had to get injections directly into the gum for about a month to calm down the pain. I have a really sensitive nervous system. Actually it is really badly miswired and all sorts of things happen to me with very normal procedures. Ex: Had a filling done at 7:30AM. By 2:00 PM I began experiencing facial pain. I called my dentist in NY who had treated me for many years for facial pain. He finished my sentence when I started saying "I had a filling done this morning"-----he ended it by saying "and now your face hurts."
I was not aware of all the side effects from the lidocaine - blood pressure, etc. I must say - I have been doing this frequently for 23 years and see many patients weekly having similar procedures. I never remember anyone having any problems. Guess we all have been pretty lucky or else they are using small quantities of medicaition. I must say at times I have a cortisone flush in my face the day after the injections. But that is the only reaction. I actually jump out of the chair very soon after the injections are completed and walk to my car. The gum injections do make me feel miserable as they are so painful. The face injections aren't too bad - except for the ones he has to aspirate. I take deep breaths in between some of them. They are rough.

I am truly <<blushing>> at reading such kind words about me! I really just want to help people!

I have witnessed alot of unnecessary and sometimes harmful events. I try to encourage people to be their own advocate. Because even the slightest knowledge about your dental treatment can sometimes minimize or possibly eliminate a negative outcome.
