Default Infected Tooth number 13

Hi im new to this site. I been reading up on it seems very informative.

Here's my situation about 6 months ago my tooth 13 had a big cavity the dentist drilled it out and put a temp in. The temp was still hurting 2 weeks later so it took it out and put a permanant in knowing it would abscess.

Well he was right my tooth is abscessed. It's been like this for months my jaw has not gotten really puffy but the infection is driving me crazy. I am on clindymacin 150 mg ever 6 hours been on 1 other antibiotic before that and the tooth still hurts. I went to the dentist and he said it can be root canaled however i had another dentist say extract it and put an implant in. I went to the oral surgeon this week and he would not pull it due to it being still infected and increased my dose to 300mg of clindamyacin. I have had a bad sinus infection with yellow mucus for 2 or 3 weeks with pressure from the tooth. My question is if i get a root canal will it complete eliminate my problem or would it be best to extract it? I want to say my health is my number one concern so if i extracting it has to be done i will do it. I have been feeling dizzy and tired. I just want it to go away.

Hi JaySmitty,

Based on your description and advice of the OS.. the tooth is severely infected and needs to be extracted. At this point the infection may have spread to your sinus which is indicative of your chronic sinus infection.

It is best to have the tooth removed while you are on the antibiotic. Usually within 3-5 days of taking it and then continue taking it post op until the rx is done.

You asked....
<<My question is if i get a root canal will it complete eliminate my problem or would it be best to extract it?>>

A root canal will not eliminate the infection and your problem will continue to become worse. Root canal therapy does not cure the infection because it is not possible to remove the nerve tissue from the tiny canals rendering the tooth chronically infected. Root canal therapy is done so a patient can retain their infected tooth for an undetermined amount of time. Inevitably the tooth will need to be extracted.

The longer you wait, the more advanced the infection will become and the more difficult it will be to eradicate it even after the tooth is removed.

I'm sure this is not what you were hoping to hear... but I do hope you find this information helpful.

Bryanna

OK thanks for your help so if i remove the tooth will the infection and all the problem go away? It was throbbing but it's not now. It seems when food get's lodged in between there it hurts worse. What would be the best way to clean it out until they remove it because food keeps getting stuck in between it.

Hey Bryanna thanks for your help i got the tooth pulled and it's not pounding like it was however i have another problem the tooth in front of it is in the same position. It's not filled yet but i am going to get it filled because there is a huge hole in that tooth. I'm hoping it won't need a root canal.

My question is what is the best solution to replace the tooth i just had pulled? I want something that will make it a normal as best as possible. I have looked at a denture, bridge or even implant. Any more advice would help.

Thanks.
