Question I think I broke a piece of Tooth #15 off :(

Hi-

While using my sonicare, on my upper teeth, I jammed( due to my limited opening) it in the back of my left upper molars and though I left a piece of plastic break off....I went through the spit and did not feel anything hard...Then I ran my tongue over each side. I believe I broke a small piece of tooth 15 off, the mesial occlusal(?) part. This was 6 hours ago. It is now 3:49 EST, and i think I feel some pain.

Will this cause me pain? Did I damage the tooth enough to require restoration? What symptoms should I look out for?

Thanks.
Stacy

Hi Stacy,

If you chipped a shallow piece of tooth off, then it can become cold sensitive. But not always. If the piece that broke off has also caused a deeper fracture in the tooth than it could be sensitive to temperature and/or chewing.

You really need to have it evaluated by the dentist.
