Default Could it be an infection?

I had tooth #19 extracted a week ago. The tooth had a failed root canal and was broken. The extraction was simple, fast, and relatively painless. A few days afterward the extraction site started hurting more and the gums became incredibly sensitive. I've had a dry socket before and this pain was actually worse. My oral surgeon is kind of a jerk. He's very arrogant, doesn't listen well, and he keeps insisting everything is fine and there's no reason it should hurt this badly. They sent me home with a syringe of sock it today and I've already used the entire thing to no avail. In fact, it seemed to make it hurt worse. The oral surgeon never took any xrays, he just used the ones from my dentist. Could it be that there is an abscess under the extraction? Should I go see a different dentist since my oral surgeon has pretty much dismissed me every time I've tried to discuss it.

On a side note I did have a root canal two weeks ago on tooth #18. They gave me steroids after that. I finished those a couple of days ago.
I also had some weird reaction after the oral surgeon packed the socket on Monday. My arms, chest, and neck turned bright red, they were hot and itchy and later that night my entire body started hurting all over. Hurting like I was bruised all over. When I would sit down it would hurt when the chair touched me or if I put my purse on my shoulder it would hurt as the strap touched me. Is this a sign of an infection? I don't feel like I have anyone to turn to. The oral surgeon won't listen, my doctor can't see me until Tuesday, and in the meantime there's some weird stuff going on and enough pain that it keeps me awake at night.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
