hello Bryanna,
i am a 44 years old woman, did root canal 8 years ago on teeth 30 (?) bottom right 2nd from the back. i had a recent X-ray done since the light bleeding from the GUM area from time to time, it does not hurt much, a little bit of dull pain... would you please take a look for me if there is severe infection under the root canaled teeth ? thanks, carol |

Hi Carol,
Thank you for posting the xray. Unfortunately this root canaled molar and the bone surrounding it are very unhealthy. Pain is not always an indicator of the severity of the problem and that is very true in your case. You have severe periodontal disease in this area of your mouth and this tooth as well as the molar behind it have severe bone loss. Periodontal disease is a bacterial infection and the only way to eradicate the infection is to remove this molar.... and possibly the second molar as well. It is important for you to know that keeping this tooth (teeth) will cause further infection and bone loss to occur. It is also important to know that Periodontal disease is not just limited to the mouth. It becomes a systemic disease when it has advanced. I'm sorry to deliver this news to you and I urge you to not wait to have this taken care of. Take care, Bryanna QUOTE=carolwdm1970;1042436]hello bryanna, i posted a message but have not get any reply, so i am trying here again. ![]() would you take a look at my root canaled teeth did 8 years ago, bottom right 2nd from the back. any suggestions? should i continue to keep this teeth or to pull ? it does not hurt me, just slight bleeding and a little bit of dull pain. thanks! carol[/QUOTE] |

hello bryanna,
thanks for taking time to answer my concern. i am planning for the extraction. however, my general dentist charge me $200 to pull and cleaning with local anesth. the oral surgeon i saw will charge me $260 extraction / $380 deep sedat / $450 replace bone graft = $1090. can i just go for the $200 appointment ?? what will make huge difference by going to oral surgeon instead of general dentist ? thanks, carol Quote:

Hi Carol,
I would definitely choose the oral surgeon over the general dentist as this tooth is most likely going to break in pieces and he will be better equipped to remove all of it. A side note, it is important that the site be debrided thoroughly after the tooth is removed. This is suppose to be done routinely but it's best if the patient let the surgeon know that you want that done to be sure he does it. If you were going to have a local anesthetic with the general dentist, then why not have that with the oral surgeon? Did the OS tell you you had to have IV sedation? Also, the bone in this area has a lot of bacteria and may not be healthy enough to receive the bone graft. The graft should only be done if the bone is healthy. Bryanna Quote:

thanks for the information.
since this oral surgeon insist deep IV sedation which is not comfortable for me. therefore, i am going to find another Oral Surgeon who is willing to work with local anesthetic to remove that teeth. now i am debating myself if i should pull both teeth at one time. Or to pull the root canaled teeth only. my general dentist suggest to pull both teeth, but the oral surgeon i saw last time suggested to keep the last molar for future observation. any thoughts ? thank you |
