hi, im new and have a few problems with my teeth, it seems to be one after the other and i am really getting close to the end. please bear with me...
last october 1st i had a normal back tooth out, he drilled it in half to get it out, it didn't seems like there were any problems getting it out and i thought it went smoothly, he cracked the filling in the next tooth aswell and instead of replacing that filling he went over it with more filling. i got dry socket which lasted 5 months, yes, 5 months! my dentist then was useless and didn't seem interested and refused to change the dry socket dressing after 2 times, which anyone who's had dry socket knows that is the only relief, so all in all the packing had actually stayed in there for nearly 4 months until my toothbrush pulled it out. i changed dentist and have a lovely one now. but inbetween all that i went back to the old dentist and said i wasn't confident in the filling he went over, so he filed that down and went over it with MORE filling! this new dentist took all the xrays and said it looks like either a bit of root or a piece of filling has gone into the extraction site which is stopping it from healing, my guess is its bits of filling as some of it had crumbled off from the other tooth, so im at the hospital next week for that. meanwhile, over the other side of my mouth i have teethache, one we think is a fracture which my new dentist has asked the hospital to extract while they sort out the other extraction site, plus he has asked them to look at my impacted wisdom teeth to see if they need pulling. now i have another problem i had a root canal years ago and now im getting pain from that!! i just don't know what to do anymore, i've really had enough that its one after the other, i am going to ask the hospital if they can do something about the root canal tooth. my question is, why are most of my teeth doing this? ive had nothing but problems since i had my tooth pulled last year and why does the old root canal hurt? and what is the best relief from toothache please. |

Hi sickofit,
Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. I come here whenever I can and I've been really busy today. Thanks for being patient. I am going to re-post some of your thread and answer you in bold type. <<<last october 1st i had a normal back tooth out>>> IF THE TOOTH WAS NORMAL WHY DID YOU HAVE IT REMOVED? WAS IT ROOT CANALED OR BADLY DECAYED? <<< he drilled it in half to get it out, it didn't seems like there were any problems getting it out and i thought it went smoothly, he cracked the filling in the next tooth aswell and instead of replacing that filling he went over it with more filling. i got dry socket which lasted 5 months, yes, 5 months!>>> IT IS COMMON FOR A TOOTH TO BE DRILLED IN HALF OR IN SECTIONS PRIOR TO REMOVING IT. THIS CAN MAKE THE EXTRACTION LESS TRAUMATIC TO THE JAW AND REMOVAL CAN BE EASIER. DID HE TELL YOU HE CRACKED THE FILLING IN THE ADJACENT TOOTH? DID HE ADD SOME FILLING MATERIAL AS A TEMPORARY MEASURE? IT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN WISE TO DRILL INTO THAT ADJACENT TOOTH IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE OTHER ONE WAS REMOVED BECAUSE THE SPRAY FROM THE DRILL AND BACTERIA ON THE TOOTH WOULD HAVE CAUSED AN INFECTION IN THE NEW SOCKET. <<<my dentist then was useless and didn't seem interested and refused to change the dry socket dressing after 2 times, which anyone who's had dry socket knows that is the only relief, so all in all the packing had actually stayed in there for nearly 4 months until my toothbrush pulled it out.>>> THE MEDICATED PACKING STAYED IN THE SOCKET FOR 4 MONTHS? THE HOLE STAYED OPEN FOR 4 MONTHS? THAT MUST BE ONE NASTY INFECTION BY NOW. <<<this new dentist took all the xrays and said it looks like either a bit of root or a piece of filling has gone into the extraction site which is stopping it from healing, my guess is its bits of filling as some of it had crumbled off from the other tooth, so im at the hospital next week for that.>>> WITHOUT AN XRAY I CANNOT COMMENT ON WHAT COULD STILL BE IN THAT SOCKET. I ASSUME YOU ARE GOING TO THE HOSPITAL DUE TO THE SEVERITY OF THE INFECTION AND YOU ARE HAVING GENERAL ANESTHESIA? <<<meanwhile, over the other side of my mouth i have teethache, one we think is a fracture which my new dentist has asked the hospital to extract while they sort out the other extraction site, plus he has asked them to look at my impacted wisdom teeth to see if they need pulling.>>> IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE A MULTITUDE OF DENTAL PROBLEMS. HAVE YOU HAD REGULAR DENTAL CARE OR ARE DO YOU BASICALLY GO TO THE DENTIST WHEN YOU HAVE AN OBVIOUS PROBLEM? IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE UNDER GENERAL ANESTHESIA, IT IS PROBABLY BEST TO HAVE ALL OF THE EXTRACTIONS DONE AT THE SAME TIME.... TO AVOID GOING UNDER THE ANESTHESIA AGAIN AT ANOTHER TIME. <<<now i have another problem i had a root canal years ago and now im getting pain from that!! i just don't know what to do anymore, i've really had enough that its one after the other, i am going to ask the hospital if they can do something about the root canal tooth. my question is, why are most of my teeth doing this? ive had nothing but problems since i had my tooth pulled last year and why does the old root canal hurt? and what is the best relief from toothache please.>>> THERE IS NO PERMANENT RELIEF FROM THE PAIN OF AN INFECTED TOOTH AND YOUR ROOT CANALED TOOTH IS INFECTED BECAUSE THE MANY HUNDREDS OF ACCESSORY CANALS CANNOT BE CLEANED OUT SO THEY WILL ALWAYS CONTAIN NECROTIC NERVE TISSUE AND BE UNHEALTHY. PERHAPS YOU SHOULD CONSIDER REMOVING THIS RC TOOTH AT THE SAME TIME AS THE OTHER ORAL SURGERY.

since i was a child i had always been to the dentist and have always turned up for appointments and whats not, i think my last dentist just didn't bother to do work on my teeth and just gave me 'all clear' at check ups. its just everything seems to be going wrong after i had that tooth took out last year. the tooth that was took out last october, a chunk of the tooth cracked off, there was a large filling in it and he put some white bonding stuff in it which only stayed in for a couple of days, the gum used to get irritated, after eating meat it used to get stuck inbetween teeth. so i went back and he gave me the option of having a root canal or pulled, i had it pulled, it didn't take long to get it out anyway. i only had the dry socket packing changed twice and some antibiotics, he refused to change the packing and said 'it had already been packed twice'. theres still a tiny hole, bits of food must have got stuck in it and it looked like it was healing, until the other week that piece of food came out, tasted foul and it bled. the tooth next to it that he cracked the filling in, he just put more filling over it, so i wonder if bits of filling fell in then. i went back to say i didn't feel confident about the filling and he filed it down and slapped more filling over it! theres a sharp point on it and some of it has come off. i don't know if i will be under anaesthetic yet, but i do agree that all these problem teeth should be taken out and sorted once and for all. i think my previous dentist was just lazy. i dread to think what the hospital dentist is going to say! |

wonderful. the dentist who pulled my tooth out has left some of the root in there, i remember asking if he got it all out. how the hell did he miss that, i had been back and forth nearly every week from being in pain.
i now have to have it cleaned out at hospital possibly under sedation. im really not happy about this and seriously thinking of getting a solicitor. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() just incase anyone replies, please don't tell me how its done i don't think i can handle it. im so upset. thanks. |

Hi sickofit,
You have every right to be upset. Your dentist had to have an idea that a portion of the root broke off when he removed the tooth. Any xrays that were done after the extraction would have shown that remaining piece of root and he should have informed you of it. Sometimes the broken root is not that far down and removing it is no worse than having the tooth removed. If you are fearful of having this procedure than consider have a light IV sedation. This is not the same as general anesthesia. Light sedation puts you in a twilight sleep where you are aware of nothing and feel nothing. But afterwards you are able to wake up easily and without a lot of grogginess. I wish you all the best.... you really will be okay ![]() Quote:

thanks Bryanna,
im so upset i could cry my eyes out, thing is, i had 3 xrays by 3 different dentists on that side and no one apart from my new one seemed to spot it. at the previous dentists they just didn't want to know and got fobbed off by the receptionists and one of the dental nurses made a sarcastic comment about me being NHS (not paying for dental treatment? he said yes when i asked if he got it all out. i shall certainly send them a letter. thanks again. |
