Hi Cc83,
I am so sorry you are going through this. The exposed bone hurts because it is alive and it is suppose to be covered by gum tissue. The gum tissue will slowly and eventually cover that area, but it can take time. It is very important that you keep your mouth teeth and gums very clean and that you eat a whole foods nutritious diet. You need all the good nutrition you can get to speed this healing along. The only way to reduce overworking your jaw is to eat soft foods and nothing that requires you to open your mouth very wide. I know this is difficult and it just seems like forever, I am so sorry. I would suggest warm moist compresses on the side of the face that hurts from the chewing. This will help the muscle to relax. Best to do this first thing in the morning and last thing at night. If you are sitting and watching television that would also be a good time. Make sure it is moist heat and not dry as the moist brings blood to the surface and allows it to be free flowing as dry hear just brings blood to the surface and it sits there. Do you take any nutritional supplements? There are some that would help. Are you interested in that? Bryanna Quote:

I am not taking anything right now. Unfortunately I had to to have two teeth on the upper left side worked on. The dentist said I was packing food on that side. I can only eat on that side. The dentist removed old fillings and decay and put a sedative filling in there until the new year when I get permanent fillings. I also bought an air flosser to help with that issue. She have me clinpro to use on my gums at night. The dentist also said she varnished the extraction site but the pain is getting unberabable again. I had a 2nd opinon and the xray was clear. I go back to the os next Tuesday and this procedure was done last Thursday by my regular dentist. 9 weeks after extraction the site is still open and unhealed. I know Bryanna mentioned nutritional supps but I really don't know what to do and can't take any more time off of work. Does anyone have any thoughts or opinions?

I'm also using this thread as a log and info for others. I went to the OS and was disguisted by his rude and dismissive tone. He told me that it could be the tooth on either side of the site or maybe there's an infection in my jawbone. Gave me augmentin and told me to go to my reg dentist and see him on Tuesday. I am not going back. My reg dentist took my right away and after proding said I have even more exposed nerves. She took much time to seal them off. She wants to wait till Sat to see if pain decreases. If it does then the exposed roots are the problem. If not then she said go the augmentin route. I asked her about possible nerve damage and she said no bc I have had radiating pain before. I'm hoping the dealing of the nerves works and can finally have some peace.
