Hi Chemar!
SO glad to hear that you are doing so well!!
At your post op appt.... tell the dentist the sutures are irritating and depending on how healed the area is, they may be able to be removed!

Keep up the rinsing for at least another 2 weeks......... even if the sutures are removed to keep the area clean and promote healing.

Thanks for updating us............. hopefully all will remain well!

Hi Cheri! Glad to know that you are recovering well. I spent alot of time throughout my life drinking, as you know. Before I turned 30 I was malnourished enough for it to have effected my teeth.....my liver did better than my teeth! The dentist could not save them....I had them all taken out. It was quite something....my mouth was so infected that weeks of antibiotics could not get rid of all the infection and they ended up turning up the gas on my to pull the last of them out. I have had dentures since. I do not miss the toothaches or the migranes that came with them! Anyways enough from me...Glad you are doing ok..

ok

stage 2 of the multiple extractions done yesterday

and only two more molars bottom left to come out about 2 weeks time, which will then have eliminated the six bothersome ones. I sooooo wish the dentists in the past had just extracted these when I requested.......woulda saved me so much agony and $$..never mind enduring that root canal that fell apart eventually
All the broken teeth were ones filled with metal amalgams too so I am glad to be rid of those.....interestingly when they broke, it wasnt the globs of mercury laden stuff that fell out but the actual tooth enamel around it....

anyway, yesterday's, altho only one extraction, was a lot more ouchy than the three last week mainly cos it had a sickle shaped root. The dentist was very pleased that it came out in one piece as she had warned that those sometimes break and that she would then have to "go in after the piece of root" ......
were my prayers answered or what!!

My wunnerful lady dentist said the sutures from last week would soon dissolve and that she preferred to leave them in place, and she was very pleased with the way that side is healing, as it was a very complex extraction.

Gotta tell ya tho, even tho I could not ask for a more careful and expert dentist, I will be VERY glad when this is over

Hey Chemar!
This is great news!! I want to pat you on the back for following through with everything and I am so happy that you are having such a positive experience!

The anticipation of dental surgery is never easy for anyone........ not even for those of us in the business! You are more than half way there and this time next month, the anticipation will all be over and you will be ridden of infected teeth and all of your mercury fillings......... Your body will thank you more than you realize ~'.'~

You mention how your mercury filled teeth had broken and that it was the filling material that was left and the enamel that broke off. This is very typical because the mercury fillings expand and contract with temperature which causes pressure on the enamel causing it to weaken and crack. During this weakening process, the margins of the mercury filling open and bacteria is able to get inside and underneath the filling causing decay. Nearly 100% of the time, when an old mercury filling is removed, there is quite a bit of tooth decay underneath it.

Chemar........ you're doing great! Keep up with the rinses and arnica ~'.'~

Hi all , found the forum while searching for info on a situation i have. I have been reading about some of you with roots into the sinus cavity, and that is why i am here. Today i saw a dentist for a tooth ach and it is an upper wisdom tooth that he says the roots protrude into the sinus cavity. He says it will be $275 for the extraction and $600 to repair the membrane . What is involved in this prosess ,it sounds odd to me , or should i find another dentist ? Thx! pkeen

Default Re: afraid of teeth extraction and dentist

I am terrified of monday. I have three loose teeth. All will have to come out as there is no exta money with medicare/medicaid for any dental work. I already have a fear of the dentist and I feel sick right now with worry. I am not sure how to handle this. I have known about the problem for years on this side of my mouth, but I had so many other medical problems and 8 surgeries, that there was no opportunity to even get checked out. Now I am in trouble, and face this issue. What can I say to the dentist so he will be gentle with me? I am afraid I will loose my stomach. Any advise would be welcome. I am so afraid. ginnie

Hi Ginnie,

Your fear is real and many, many people can associate with what you are feeling. I tell my patients to not be afraid to express their fears because to express them to the dentist empowers you because you have not held those emotions in but rather let them out on your own terms. Does that make sense to you? Can you do that?

Are you going to sleep for these extractions or just taking a local anesthetic?

Bryanna

Default Re: injections

I had been having sedation dentistry, but now I cannot afford to do that. I don't take the injections very well. I usually cry as they are so painfull. I don't know why they are more painfull then they aught to be. It has been that way my whole life. I am shaking this morning and in tears as I mentioned. My old dentist wouldn't even see me until dec. as I hadn't been able to go in on a regular basis. I have had 8 surgeries and my health is in terrible condition. I have barretts esophogus and can't swallow well, and now I can't chew well to be able to swallow. I am loosing weight and sleep over this whole issue. The old dentist that wouldn't see me, said he would have to start me over as a new patient, with all the new expenses. I chose a dentist near to home who does not use sedation, so I am petrified and sick.
What can I do to calm my fears, I need compassion from this new dentist. ginnie

Hi Ginnie,

I am sorry I have not been on here for several days... we had a severe snowstorm on 10/29 and we lost all of our power that night until just today! Fortunately, we have a generator that allows us a minimum amount of electric but there was no electric power other than that.. so we didn't have any heat, telephone, cable for internet or tv and no running water because we have a well. I have a gas stove so I could light the flame to boil the water that we got from nearby businesses that had power. We normally do not see snow here in NJ until December....hopefully this is not the start of a bad winter!

Anyway.. by now you have had those teeth removed... how did it go? How are you feeling now?

Bryanna

Default Hi bryanna

The question is How are you? Gosh I heard about your snowstorm. I know you were without power. I too hope this is not a bad omen of the winter to come. I hope you ate enough and stayed warm enough.
I am OK. I swelled up, and I look a site, but made it though the proceedure. I had you and your good thoughts with me and I knew I was not alone. I am grieving for these teeth too. sounds silly, but it makes me sad that I could not save them. My bone released these teeth, where there was no disease, and not an explaination why it occured. I had already had them crowned, yet the bone continued to receed. I do have degenerative bone disease, and I now wonder if that is why this happened. I do floss every day, no blood with cleaning eithor, no cavities, just teeth that are coming loose, and another needing a crown. Oh boy, trouble once again. I will see what I can afford to do, but I have to pay this off first. What can the poor really do? Thank you for your thoughts. I really appreciated it. ginnie
