Default Bone graft / extraction nightmare..

I have had an abscess in my back molar #31 for about a year and a half now which just come and goes and well recently got really bad and I ran to my local dentist. Not to my surprise I have an infection down to the bone so the dentist insisted that he does an extraction and graft immediatley .. It was extremely urgent to him that it be done right away and I was happy about it. So for 45 minutes he was in there doing his job it was great and now it is two days later and I have noticed last night 2/2/16 there are NO stitches and they were NOT dissolvable ones!- and now my gums and face are swollen and white stuff and bone graft yellow puss is all over that site... It's the ugliest things I have ever seen.. Best part they are closed today and no emergency number I somehow managed to contact the assistant through Facebook and they gave me an appointment for 9 AM tomorrow I don't know if I'll make it this thing gets uglier and nastier every hour I am on antibiotics clindamycin 300 mg.

Xosabrinita,

Rinse with warm salt water every couple of hours until you go to sleep. About 5 ounces of water with a tablespoon of salt. Rinse until the water is gone, not just a swish or two. Rinse again in the am upon awakening.

I would suggest that you keep your head elevated on a couple of pillows tonight when you sleep to help reduce the swelling from increasing inside of your mouth.

Make sure you get in to the dentist tomorrow. Your dentist may refer you to an oral surgeon, if he does, don't hesitate to go.

Please let us know how you are doing.

Uuufffff thank you for the advise, the dentist told me not to use the water and salt unless he told me to but at this point.... It couldn't make things worst... The graft is now .... Coming out of the membrane all over its like stabbing my gums and the tooth in front of it and behind it are bleeding and seem infected.. Well thanks for the advise I'll let you know what happens tomorrow .. What a nightmare.. I posted a photo so you can see how it is now and I have not ate anything I drank a coolata four hours ago

Hello Bryanna, I visited the dentist yesterday for ten minutes .... She basically told me everything was OKAY and the stitches ARE there and nothing was wrong.... What had happened was my gums and wisdom tooth were so swollen I could not feel the stitches and it just felt like a membrane to me- what do I know anyways lol so I asked her why does it look so infected and she told me I had to run to buy a mouth wash chlorhexidine rinse.. I had got the prescription the day after the bone graft happen sled so I think infection was attacking my gums and she asked which antibiotics I was taking and I told her - she said that is the strongest and I should be fine.. Well today I feel a little better however I am feeling like a fever is definitely coming on like a throat infection is coming over me and I am so tired of the aches in my throat neck and mouth... I hope these antibiotics keep working --- thanks !
There's a photo to see ultimately it doesn't look infected in fact it looks like a sewn up gum

Xosabrinita,

Did you see the same dentist that extracted the tooth? Were either of them oral surgeons?

The gum tissue is still very swollen and irritated. It would behoove you to rinse with warm salt water. The chlorhexidine kills both the good and the bad bacteria whereas the salt water only kills the bad bacteria. Make sure to brush and floss all of your teeth to keep plaque from accumulating.

FYI... the strength of an antibiotic does not determine if it will kill the bacteria that is causing the infection. It is the species of the bacteria that dictates if that particular antibiotic is appropriate at killing it.

The fact that you are now not feeling well and feel you are developing a throat infection is a bit concerning. Are you prone to throat infections?

If the swelling is not down significantly by monday or it gets worse, please see an oral surgeon to evaluate the area.

Hello Bryanna, I am glad you have replied. I have bad news and the dentist who did my extraction and bone graft has not been able to see me ... On Monday I have an appointment again.. Today I ran to the dentist AGAIN! I have had a fever from the beck down since 5pm yesterday... My fever goes down when I take the ibuprofen and comes back about two hours after... I just popped another cus it won't go away. I was concerned and I called them the dentist check my site and said it is not swollen and maybe I caught a fly or a cold of some sort but I am worried I'm not prone to throat infections at all. Never. She keeps telling me to stop worrying but I can't.. I feel down and weak all day because my body is fighting off infection and I know it. She said I will see the dentist who did y work on Monday... Let's see if I make it till then.. The site feels fine and I am eating a little better but my throat and the fever is not getting better .. I'm doing the sale and water later - thanks
