I had tooth extractions three days ago, and today I noticed this after rinsing with salt water. I thought I was being careful, but I guess not. Before I jump to anymore conclusions, I need a second opinion. Is this a dry socket, or just me over thinking things?

Hi dannyj,
It looks normal for 3 days post op. Not all dry sockets show visible signs as the problem lies within the bone itself. If you had pain but it is subsiding it is not a dry socket. If your pain is increasing rather than improving, or you suddenly develop pain, then see your dentist as that is a typical symptom of a dry socket. Bryanna

Okay, it just looked abnormal to me,
but it is normal to look like that, even wisdom tooth extractions? Quote:

Yes, it is normal to look like that the first week or so post op.
Late onset of pain, swelling, or fever, are symptoms associated with dry socket. Keep rinsing with warm salt water 3 times a day til the socket tissue closes over... keep your teeth clean and floss them to reduce the build up of plaque. FYI... Smoking or drinking alcohol will irritate the wound, dry out the bone (dry socket) and delay proper healing. Quote:
