Default How long for skin in roof of mouth to grow back?

This ties into the oral surgery I will have on Thursday.

Does anyone know how long it takes for the skin to grow back on the roof of our mouth once they take it off? I don't know if they are going to scrape it off or cut it in sections, but I have too many problems to fix in one visit.

I will have to go back at least one more time, maybe twice more.

Anyone know "roughly" how long it takes for the skin to grow back?

Thanks, Dave

Default regrowth of palate tissue

Hi dllfo,

The palatal tissue is very thick and resilient. After the tissue is removed, it will feel similar to a pizza burn for a day or so. Rinsing with the chlorhexadine will help with the healing. The palatal tissue starts to grow back very quickly in a clean mouth and slower in one that has bacteria accumulating.

Within 2-3 weeks, the palatal tissue will be new again! Chances are that your graft sites will be rotated and not taken from the exact areas for all 3 teeth.

It is also a good idea to have a healthy diet of soft foods pre planned so you maintain proper nutrition during the healing phase. Vitamin supplementation and arnica pellets are also very helpful as well as adequate water intake every day to keep hydrated and keep the saliva flowing.

If you smoke, now is a great time to stop. Smoking will impede the healing and could prevent the grafted tissue and palate from healing.

Again... please keep us posted on how you are doing! All the best to you!

Bryanna

Bryanna, thank you for sharing your knowledge.

I take a healthy dose of vitamins and drink a 6oz can of V-8 juice daily. Arnica pellets are new for me but I will take your advice and look them up.

Even though I have "smoker's lungs" I have never smoked even one cigarette. It was 2nd hand smoke from my parents.

I certainly agree everyone needs to stop smoking. It is not good for the person smoking or anyone around them. My mom was a heavy smoker and it has caused severe problems for me. I also have a CNS problem in which my brain forgets to tell me to breathe when I am asleep. I sleep on a ventilator.

I am so glad to hear the roof of our mouth is not going to be painful for a couple of weeks. That makes me feel a little better.
Thanks again .... Dave
