Default I'm getting use to my Bite(Night)Guard now.

It's been several weeks, and I'm starting to get use to my night guard now. I want to keep my teeth.

I had a crown put in around two years ago. Now my dentist said he want's to keep a eye on another one that is starting to crack. BF

Exclamation Woo Hoo!!!

I hope so. I brush my teeth before bed,and put it in. My Night guard goes on my top teeth.

It was uncomfortable at first, but now I'm getting use to it. This second night guard is softer.

I want to save my teeth in the long run. I don't believe that I've felt any difference.

I do have a little tightness in the right side of my jaw. I don't know what that is. BF

Hey brokenfriend!

It is common to need some adjustments to your nightguard from time to time as your bite is re-adjusting itself to a less tense position. So the tightness that you are feeling on the right side may mean that it needs an adjustment. It is a good idea to get that taken care of to avoid any additional tension on the TMJ joint.

Please keep us posted on how you are doing!

Default Thank you Bryanna

I've noticed it for a long time, like about 20 years, that there is a tightness in the right side of my jaw. I never knew what it was,or if there was a name for it. It seems to get more stiff when I'm more tense. Is there a name for it? I've seen a few people write abbreviations as to what it might be. BF

The tightness that you get on the right side of your jaw may be indicative of an imbalance in your bite that has never been adequately corrected. If the jaw muscle on that side is overused, it will spasm from time to time causing that tight feeling. Sometimes the skeletal structure between the head and neck is misaligned for whatever reason and the bite will shift to accomodate this misalignment. It is not uncommon for a person to have TMJ problems and a bruxism habit due to a skeletal problem that has not been diagnosed.

I have no idea if any of that is relative to your particular situation or not. I just know that most of the time in patients with bruxsim habits, there is some form of correlation between the skeletal makeup and the alignment of the jaw.

If you are getting relief from you nightguard than that is a good sign that it's helping at least to some extent. If you are not getting any relief, then it may behoove you to have the nightguard adjusted.

Have a nice holiday!
Bryanna

Default Hooray? and then some....

sorry I'm so late in seeing this!
I do understand about the 'getting used to it?' part? But I'm now on my Third Guard or whatever ya call it in the last 20+ years. And, I still feel the soreness from sleeping CHOMPINGNESS-es! BTW? I wore out the first two! I am definitely a chomper!
Just sort of incorporate the insert thingie into your nitetime routine. That is what I do and I am successful about 95% of the time.
Don't be hesitant tho, if something is rubbing or not right with the gard....I've always found adjustments are easily made.
As for other tenseness? Now that you are Aware of it? Check out 'body awareness techniques'.... Once you know, you can deflect/redirect the tenseness, if not avoid it. Just even being aware? You can tell yourself OH? OK! and that can do the trick at times...not always tho. Sure cheaper than lots of other options, and better than more medications?
Chomp safely now! 's - j

Hi Brokenfriend,

Is the night guard giving you issues? I had similar problem that you ran into. My dentist saw holes in my mouth and he said I was grinding and clenching my teeth. I did some research online and found high quality information on mouth guards from ** I now have a night guard from** that has eliminated my teeth grinding and my pain is gone. I hope you find the solution to your problem and find peace within yourself!
