Hi Matt,

I'm just an observer, and forgive me if I'm totally wrong, but it sounds as if you are perseverating. You keep saying that you're not obsessing or worrying at all and that may be so, but you appear to be perseverating and trying to find a solution and a way to get back in control. Perseveration can feel automatic and hopeless.

Edited to add: Perseveration can also be a positive thing. Think of all the scientists and specialists in other fields that we wouldn't have if they didn't tend to perseverate. My son is on autism spectrum - Asperger's Syndrome. Adult now. When he was young he could get really "stuck". Not so much now and he's more able to use this quality in more positive ways.
