Hi Mel, it does sound easy enough & thanks for going to all the trouble of explaining it all, it will give it a shot in the future but when i am not sure, as i would have to find out were to buy these things in the first place, as i live in the country/seaside & my nearist health food/supplement shop is about 20 miles away, but my neighbour next door has every inch of his garden growing something differant [vegetable wise] so i will ask him about them, if anyone will know i am sure he will point me in the right direction.

Thankyou Mel,

Brian

I am going to try the sprouts to get my sugar down and my partners- his A1C is 11 and his sugar is frequently over 300. He had gotten it down under 200 for the first time in years but when he hit the doughnut hole in medicare he couldn't afford his Insulin (NovalogN). His doctor gave him Novalog but he is having a real rough time getting it under control. He loves salads and sprouts - we just didn't think of using them.

Hi Judy:

My husband Alan had to go on duragesic fentanyl patches YEARS ago because his neuropathy was soooo bad (not diabetic by the way).

Are you taking Methyl b-12. That is what helped me tremendously last year when I got my FIRST TASTE OF NEUROPATHIC PAIN. Ever since I began taking my B-12 under my tongue in the a.m., I have literally have no pain. So for me (and it doesn't hurt that I lost most of my weight and have controlled my diabetes), so for me, thankfully, I can' complain.

But my husband has several things going on at the same time. He was, however, able to go off of Fentanyl and vicodin and all that stuff, YEARS AGO, after seeing a Chiropractic/Neurologist.

But then again, his PN is NOT DIABETES RELATED.

Hard to deal with, I understand.

You take care,

Melody

Crikey, i guess a misdiagnoses like this could be fatal.

many thanks

Brian:

You don't have to go to a health store. Next time you are at any grocery store, pick up a package of lentils (any kind). Do the soaking, and rinsing 3 times a day.

Believe me, when you see those little things coming out of the lentils after 3 days, you'll start laughing your head off.

This is how I started do it on my own. Then I was so enamored of this sprouting process, (and because I didn't want to walk all the way to my organic health store, and pay those organic food prices), that I went on ebay and found an organic ebay store that sells seeds. I purchased some seed packages of various sprouting kinds, and as soon as they arrive, I shall be sprouting full time.

Oh, I'm thinking of buying an Herb Garden (I saw the infomercial on tv). There are different kinds, and if I can grow my own tomatoes in my apartment, well then, I'm going to spring for it.

I'm trying to picture my husband walking into the kitchen and not only seeing sprout trays but tomato vines.

That will be some site to see.

But seriously, the hergarden is absolutely beautiful. In the tv infomercial, it's sitting in the middle of the guy's dining room table, and it's all lit up and there's tomatoes growing all over the place in this herb-garden.

To me, that sells itself. I just went to the grocery store and they wanted $3.99 for a pint of grape tomatoes. I said "are you nuts?" and came home.

If you think I'm going to pay $3.99 for a pint of grape tomatoes when I can grow tomatoes in my house, well I am definitely going to look into this herb garden thing.

So good luck to you and Happy Sprouting.

Mel

Default 200-300 readings!!! Yikes!

Arnold can I ask what you & your friend are eating?? Those numbers are WAY too high.....

As far as being diagnosed type 2 & being skinny & physically active.....well that was the case with me also. You have to keep in mind that we were diabetic BEFORE we were diagnosed.

As for someone that has a very active job & the doc stating to get more exercise,I'm thinking the doc didn't bother to read the chart (which is all too common).

I find the sprout thing interesting.....might just have to try that myself!

Brian,

Ask your friend if his doctor ran a GAD test. This test detects the antibodies that are present if a person has autoimmune type 1 diabetes. I was diagnosed with type 2 and I felt that I didn't fit the bill for that. I was 27, I was thin and very active. I questioned the doctors because we have a strong history of type 1 in my family. The possibility that I had type 1 was brushed off. I was frustrated because I never got great results with the pills. My blood sugars were all over the place and I was very brittle. About a year into treatment for type 2, the glucophage and glyburide quit working. It was then that I was sent to an endocrinologist and he ran the GAD test. It was positive. That is when it was determined that I had developed type 1. I guess the pills worked for me as long as my pancreas was still making a little bit of insulin. As soon as it stopped making any insulin, the pills stopped working. I have been on the insulin pump for four or five years now and I love it. I am getting ready to upgrade to the Paradigm by Medtronic. I can hardly wait. It is truly like an artificial pancreas. Well, I better run. Best of luck to your friend. Let us know what he finds out...

Thanks Evonne for the advise about the GAD test, I will inform him about that...
but anyway apparently he is doing fine these days, last Ac1 was 5.5, just doing the low carb diet and no beer at all, the neuropathy has also settled down a lot.
I guess time will tell what happens in the future though, thanks everyone
