i know i should have thought of this before i ran out of my meds. but i don't have health insurance anymore as i turned 22 a few months ago and im off my parent's insurance. now im trying to get medicaid. but it is just a big circle. in order to get my meds filled i need to see a doctor, and i need to see a doctor in order get some forms filled out so i can get medicaid. i dont know what im going to do. my appointment with a doctor is not until june, but i need my meds now. i don't have a job right now because of a neck and shoulder injury.

i hate having seizures. it allows me to have no freedom. im 22 and im still living at home bcuz of this. and i wish i could go out and party and drink but i cant do that, and i cant even be around cigarrete smoke.

if you are in the USA, most counties and states have medical clinics associated with their health department, where you can go and pay on a sliding scale with very low pay for unemployed or low income patients.

Can you call your current doctor's office and explain the dilemma and see if they can refill your prescription for you by contacting the pharmacy...or if they have to see you, ask for a payment plan.

Also, the ER at a state or county hospital will not turn you away if you need to see a doctor urgently to get correct medications, as someone with diagnosed seizure disorder or epilepsy

If she went to a county run clinic provided there is one where she is as not all have them, she'd still need an appt which takes a lot of time and also lots of paperwork too. I have used this source in the past. Find the county run hospital and see if they have clinics as mentioned above. Call them when open and see what they may be able to do if there is one in your county. The county associated clinics that could provide meds like she needs were not at all part of the Health Dept. Mine was a part of the county run hospital that also had outpatient clinics. I don't see the problem as being one of getting the script filled. The payment of it is. Our meds can be very costly. My pharmacy was willing to allow me to have a week's worth of my refill until I could pay for it. If they know you, they may be willing to do something like that. Wonder if they would fill it and run through insurance if parent called for the refill? They just might do it and they work it out after if needed.
Se if you can find where free standing clinics may be in your area. There might be a place that serves the immigrants and others who qualitfy. They usually have a pharmacy. I have used this source too. Social Services or Dept of health and Human Services in your county can tell you these locations.
Also call around to other pharmacies and check their prices. Call Sams and Costco etc. Most pharmacies will price match. If they won't, transfer script to one that will price match or to the one with the lowest price. The threat of transferring the script may make them work with you.
Also, if you take a generic which you probably don't but then insurance co are greeedy enough to require that in some cases. Walmart and Target have very low prices. $4.00 a script.
Seems like the doc who has been filling your scripts could do the paperwork sooner because you have a file and he/she knows you. Not sure why you have to wait for the appt to do the Medicaid paperwork. Call and get the nurse to get papers to the doc or better yet take them by if you have to. The nurse can complete them and have the doc sign them and write the script needed if one is.
Then ask parents to pay for one month meds. Seems like they'd understand that you are now off their policy and in this time of transition may be willing to help. I also have used charities in a dire situation. Good to be familiar with them anyway.
I would see if the pharm co has a patient assistance program. Check their website. Many do, and it is for people in your position. I have used this source. You can get a copy of the form to apply online at the company's site but still will need to get the doc to complete their portion and write a script. Even your family doc can do these things. They send 6 months at the time. What meds are you taking?
Then, once you are able, find an epileptologist to maybe offer you other options besides meds. Good luck and keep us posted. Tattoo

i take topamax for my seizures...
i was in the psych ward for about 5 days in december but i just moved to this state iin december. so im not a regular patient at the hospital and i dont think the doctors there know me.
im really confused about all of this..i remember going to the hospital and having them fill out a form but i don't remember what it was for and if the medicaid office needs more forms filled out.

Take the required amount of credits at a college so you can stay on parents insurance?

Get copies of all medical records from your previous doctors.

You may need them as proof and so you won't have to have repeat testing or procedures.

Contact the makers of your meds and see how you go about getting them free or discounted.

These are the links to the application for medication assistance. One is to Johnson and Johnson's application. When it asks if you are eligible for medicaid, say no because at this point you do not know. Until all forms are in and a decision is made, at this point, the correct answer is no, and it will make you ineligible if you say yes I think. Also, if the doc who has been prescribing topamax is in the other state, the office can call any pharmacy anywhere to have it filled. Very good idea to get all medcal records. I understand how you feel about still living at home with your parents. I just turned 30 this year and I still have to live with mine. I have had three brain surgeries and disability doesn't pay nearly enough so I can move out on my own. I'm back in school and working towards getting the hell out of this house. Hang in there and I hope everything works out with your meds!!
