I've read lots of your posts, and you all have had testing and diagnosis sucesses. What is next? my partner has received EEG - mostly negative, MRI - mostly inconclusive, now we're waiting 6-12 months for VEEG - what other routes have you been with regards to testing - were they sucessful? how long did you have to wait for a Proper Diagnosis? Are PET Scans readily available? Did FMRI work for you? what was the key test for your diagnosis, and how did you get one, and how long did it take? We're 1 year into a disaster that caused us to realize the seizures were now overruling normal life, and we're no further ahead.

Hi redloui,
I've had an e.e.g. MRI, FMRI, and veeg (video e.e.g.) along with a CT scan which showed the most detail. I've also had a PET scan, Spect scan, angiogram, and wada test done. What my Epileptologist did was admit me into the hosptial for about 1 wk. and he had all the testing set up ahead of time this way I didn't have to keep going back and forth to the hospital and it saved me money in the long run. The e.e.g and veeg showed a lot of detail but when I had the veeg they did surgery on me and put the depth electrodes (7 of them) directly on my brain and this picked up the most detail. Many people don't have to have this type of veeg but my Epi found damage deep in my brain that was hard to pick up on the other tests. I've found going to an Epilepsy Center which are at big hopsitals or university hospitals and dealing with an Epileptologist (Dr. specializing in epilepsy) the best thing I have done in the past because the neuros. I saw didn't know as much as the Epi and the Epi had me on fewer AED's (sz. meds) If I may ask what type of sz. does your partner have? The type of sz. or the cause of the sz. can also make a difference in the type of tests the Dr. will want to do. Here's wishing you and your parnter only the best and May God Bless You Both! Sue |

redloui, I will agree with Sue in all she told you. All the neuro I went to never went far enough in testing. Then I came to a neuro that sent me to an Epileptologist where when he ran a MRI discovered my problem, having a score on my brain. Lucky for me they removed it and I am doing much better. When going through an university hospital is very good in the way of cost. Prayers and thoughts with you. Darlene ![]()
