Default Can you have a stroke and not know it and just go on?

I couldn't find a stroke section so I thought I'd try here. You can see my checkered past in my signature. Since the back surgery (which was great by the way. No pain and I can do a little more with my right leg.) But my new hobby is falling. I don't get dizzy, my legs just refuse to support the trunk. Sometimes it's when I'm walking, other times it's when I have a balance shift, and sometimes it's fine.

Could clearing up the back have unmasked a symptom that's been hiding? Could I have had a small stroke and never knew it? Inquiring minds want to know. (you're dating yourself if you know that quote.)

Hi there!

You're probably sick of seeing doctors but if you keep falling like that, and with your medical history, a check-up would be a great idea!

Some people can have TIAs (transient ischaemic attacks) which can be more vague and short lived and by the time they are seen by their doctor they may pass a medical exam just fine. If the doc thinks there is a risk that it may have been a TIA then the doc would order diagnostic tests.

Seeing you have such serious spinal issues and you are suddenly falling as you've described and don't have any other signs or symptoms, then I'd be talking to the neurosurgeons or orthopods who have treated you over the years.

I do have an appointment with my Dr. next week. I was just wondering if I could of had a small stroke, not noticed it and got better. TIAs have been a frequent visitor to me. I've been told to find another hobby. Thanks for direction.

Hi SDFencer,

My husband has had back surgery done twice and I he lost feeling in his right leg which is all part of the surgery he had done. In regards to feeling dizzy and losing your balance at times that could all be related to your brain surgery that you had. I've had brain surgery done twice for epilepsy to help reduce my sz. and every now and then I get dizzy and my balance isn't be greatest but my neurosurgeon told me this was all do to the surgery I had along with the area of my brain that they found damage which was on the right temporal lobe. You may want to speak with your neurosurgeon and let them know what's going on. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Sue
