Sharon and Porkete, this is very interesting to me as my computer has been triggering most of this arua and ugly feeling of being removed form my body, every time i reseach. you see ive had a problem on and off with balance for years so this is my way of finding out whats wrong so i can help myself get well my reseach is all done on the computer , looks as if i have to buy one of the lcd moniter or flicker free screen.
as soon as i get on the comp, with in 1 minute my arms and legs are finching and arua happens. i havent heard of this Migralepsy. some one along the way had mentioned atypical migraine as possibly being the reason behind my balance issue and now they are saying possible seizure so i could have both, Maybe? i'm so confused.
thanks so much guys,
hugs jen

Hi Jen,
I found that the brightness of a computer monitor would often trigger sz. for me. In regards to balance I have very poor balance also. I found out that often this is do to the AED a person is taking or it can happen because the cerebellum of the brain which controls a persons balance is being affected do to the epilepsy, that's why a neuro or epi will have a person try and walk a straight line walking heel to toe without looking down at the floor. I always pull to the right when I do this and it's the RTL of my brain that's causing the sz. Here's wishing you well and May God Bless You!

There is a way to control it is go to Radio Shack and get
a Anti-Glare Computer Screen Cover (I am suspecting you
are using an old Computer Monitor) - make sure you measure
your monitor screen diagonally so you'll get the right size.
Best Buy "used" to carry them, but I've not seen them around
for a long time, but you might want to call around, or even
call some Computer Parts & Repair Shops - you might be able
to pick one up for cheaper. (NOTE: AVOID the green-shaded
anti-glare screen and get what appears to look like "black"
which is actually "ultraviolet" - the same as sunglasses)

Some people with Epilepsy just wears sunglasses.

The other option is to adjust your monitor so that the contrast
and brightness is DARKER and make your room slightly brighter
than normal instead of the other way around where the lights
of the room is dimmer and the computer is brighter.

With me - I put myself on a timer and limit myself online, but
ever since my sister gave me her expensive flat screen HUGE
monitor -- I've not had any problems at all because of the fine
quality. But when I go to my old monitor - it's a problem and
I just wear sunglasses and use a small table lamp near it, it's
cheaper that way.

Sorry for the delay, my mother has been in town. I had something similar but it has a variety of types. I went to have the Optomap test done and she suggested it's actually these small fat ball things in my eyes (gross!!). I do have some visual disturbances after my seizures (blurred, halos, etc.) but the light spots or those floating things (not to be sick but I call them air sperm, lol) my optometrist said were fat spots.

Anytime you have any visual changes, you should have some extensive eye testing done. Look for an optometrist who specializes in working with people with head trauma; they have the good machines! If you're anywhere near Orange County, let me know. I know the best one around and she has amazing history working with people who have Epilepsy and other various neurological problems.

Also, my man got a new big screen tv which triggered my seizures. I eventually got used to it. He got me a HUGE monitor for my B-day so that took some getting used to. Both are LCD/Plasma.

Gotta run my mom to airport!

Oops! I have a Regular Optometrist too. I only saw a
Neuro-ophthalmologist one time years ago (early 80s' I think),
when he confirmed my vision was 20/20, and I had night blindness
and that the vision problem was neuro-related. The State Voc.
Rehab. Dept. sent me to him as they thought I needed glasses
after obtaining a report from the Optometrist stating my vision
was fine and it was a neuro-issue. They never did anything
after that.

Please accept my apologies!

No need to apologize, silly! Yeah, same thing for me - kinda. They did testing over several days and my vision changes which ended up with a neuro-related diagnosis. Basically, one day my vision is crap and there's nothing I can do about it. Sometimes I can't focus, so my eyes keep trying with no luck. She also said I had a severe midline shift to my right, however, I've grown used to that and just learn to walk an extra step to the opposite side. She also had suspected some vestibular problems, but that came back OK for the most part (sometimes I tip over, but I think it's kind of funny ).

It's rough, but my Optometrist was the only 'eye doctor' I've seen who did 3 days of straight testing (3-4 hours per day AND only charged for one visit) to confirm her diagnosis.

I remember one thing though, it's kind of funny. They were doing the thing where you put your eyes up to that small machine that reminds me of one of those viewer things I had when I was a kid (round disc with pictures, and you click the handle to change pictures). She told me to say what number the line was on, it was 1-12. I was chucking out numbers, "Two!, Four!, Eleven!". I was so thrilled that I could call them all so fast, up until I realized that it should have stopped on one number . It was my eyes trying to focus and failing. I think eye tests are the only tests I have that I really enjoy. Even if I fail, they sure are fun!!

Anyway, more towards the topic.

I highly recommend (all of you) getting the Optomap test done. It is just like your dental x-rays. It stays on file forever! It's like $40.00 without insurance, and if you do that once a year or so it will let them better look for changes, too. I think this website has pictures and maybe videos: http://www.optos.com/us/
