For those who hadn't seen the posting on the EF Forum,
Thurs, June 28, after 5 PM, there was a Mexican who was fleeing from the Sheriff Deputies - unfortunately, above all things, it had to end by crashing into my car. Both my son and I were injured, while I was the Driver, this was accident #24 for me (strangely, none of the accidents were ever my fault - ever) and this man is a felon and is in jail and will be in jail and is going no where (not after wrecking 2 Deputy cruisers, damaging several people's vehicles and causing all kinds of problems before ending it by crashing into my car). The worse thing is - I can't get this stupid "GONG" sound out of my head, the Doctors know, my Level 4 Epi Center know - I've given them the Report Numbers (I have 2 Case numbers) and yadda yadda yadda. Both my son and I - our neck hurts, back hurts, however, because the impact was on the driver's left side my head hit the window and window frame and it triggered seizures so I was in and out for awhile there, while I'm fine so far, but just cannot figure out why the hospital wouldn't give me any pain killers or anti-inflammatory medication. The muscle spasms are literally keeping me awake, and the pain causes tears to stream down the corner of my eyes. While my son first refused medical attention, as he didn't understand that my insurance covers him. He's wanting medical help. *sigh* Yes, I told the ER Doctors & Nurse that, and I told them about the double vision, it keeps coming and going. They wanted me to stay, but didn't have my medication - as my Epi wants me on Brand Name only. And I already missed one dosage of my med and was late for my other meds - and was in so much pain, cold, wet, tired, hungry, and literally frustrated with the Hospital - I just wanted to go home. My main concern is my son and my head, the Neuro I had before warned me of another impact could cause more problems for me. I have no idea what my Epi or Level 4 Center is going to do now - but I'd sure like to get rid of this "GONG" sound out of my head that's been there since the impact. It hasn't gone away.

Wow, Southie, so sorry to hear this! I am as far from you as one can get and still be in the U.S., and even I saw the news story! What an awful way to get your "15 minutes of fame". I'll pray for you and your son... and for the dr.s to be at their best and most compassionate while dealing with your injuries. May they hand you many pills that make you feel better ![]()

My prayers go out to you and your son. A few yrs. ago I was also in an auto accident when a guy reared my husband and I. This caused me to go flying and hit my head into the windshield. I saw my epi and neurosurgeon who both told me I had traumatic Brain Injury with neck injuries also. This caused me to have a lot more sz. because there was a lot of swelling in the brain as well as the brain tissue. I didn't have any strange sounds like you did but it effected my memory something terrible. I finally found out that I had Post Concussive Syndrome. I had to go through physical therapy for months and within time my memory got better. My Dr. had me cut back on all caffeine and he gave me neurontin for the pain which made my sz. worse. I reported everything to my lawyer and he went after the guy who had to pay for everything plus time lost from work. You should start keeping a daily log if you want a lawyer to be involved. Make sure you write down how you feel each day along with the date and if you have sz. that day. I hope you and your son are feeling better just take it slow and don't overdo it. May God Bless You! so sorry !!! ER often NOT "good" experience, lacking in comfort & care desired & needed after Trauma like you & son went thru. also seem to do poorly for providing for what can't see, like Pain.
most ER don't know how to deal w/ Head Trauma to Dx, appropriately treat, esp. "mild" TBI .--if out for less than 30 min , class as "mild" tho it doesn't feel that way !!! Specialists--like NeuroSurgeons are not called in except for most severe "obvious" injuries and coma.; rarlely do closed head injury, get more than basic tests--CT Scans, x-rays--which often show nada -at that time. Did they find anything on any tests??? They wanted you stay --I understand your wanting to leave, esp. when didn't have Your Meds . I don't know about your condition or meds taken, but wonder if --in this emergency situation--your brand name med could've been substituted -- and generic taken briefly (till you could get yours) -to enable you and your son to remain in Hospital for further evaluation & possible additional treatment?? You presented ER w/ some complexity-- Hx of previous med condition--affecting Brain. Reporting symptoms of TBI--loss of consciousness, vision & audio disturbances and more... "redflags" in this situation--were "non-compliant"-- you refused the treatment they offered--to stay & take generic med-- which was NOT what you wanted, or perhasp not even the Best -- but... what they did offer... I can relate--- when in pain you want Relief, ER is so stressful you just want OUT--esp. if you're cold, dirty, tired, hungry , upset, & more --as you would be after accident. but the fact is they wanted you to stay & you refused.. Did you sign form --AMA- that you were leaving Against Medical Advice?? if you did-no biggie--it's way to cover... But the Symptoms presented and If the pain, muscle spasms are so severe to make you cry--you need something--as you already know--- ALL these are signs that sometings wrong, that could become worse w/out appropriate DX & treatment. Hopefully NOT --but needs to be pursued to know IF something else occured w/ accident, and to get Pain relief. if you haven't yet--CALL your DR. state~ EMERGENCY--as it is! Most DRs can be paged and do return calls, or who ever is on call. Hope they do more than say go to ER ( which often occurs) Weekends are terrible for accessing help beyond ER. But some of my DR's have either come to ER, or are at least were called by ER for further details & suggestions on how to treat & get more HX. if you can't connect w/ your DRs ---go to ER--don't have to go to one you were taken, unless selection of Care facilites is limited in your area. also If you do go to ER or Hospital-take Your MEDS , w/ you. IF don't have exactly what's needed in their pharmacy, often will allow yours. don't need Re-runs.... enough bad experiences already! But if you feel don't want to go to ER , & can tuff out till get appt. w/ own DRs/specialist... get attentention ASAP --don't wait too long & suffer longer. You said son wants Med attention & sounds like he also needs to be further evaluted. Whiplash --commonly occurs and can create types of Brain injury as well as Muscle disorders that are painful & can last long. as well as other types of injury from trauma like this; also PTSD.. Most head injurys (concussions, "mild" TBi) resolve quickly but some do not. I may not be telling you anything you don't know, as you stated Dr. said another Impact could cause more problems... You & son have problems Now, that are crying for intervention. I hope you are able to access attention needed ASAP, and receive most appropriate & Compassionate treatment. some ER are better than others; often just going at another time ( different circumstances, Staff, etc. ) makes for a different experience. I wish you & son the Best !! and pray you both Heal well & quickly.... Let me know how goes... I don't usually Post here, Mostly at Forum for TBI -Traumatic Brain Injury & Post Concussive syndrome_PCS. I know & am learaning (hard way) about repeat Head injurys> and frustration of finding "right" Drs & treatment. Good LLUCK ps---vestibular problems often occur--may need to go to Neuro-specialists for that "gong" sound . But start w/ whatever DR's/ medical intervention you can access... ASAP .... it may be process, but I'm prayin you & son get what's needed as soon as possible. Last edited by pono; 07-01-2007 at 10:41 AM. Reason: add |

I have an Epileptologist - a Level 4 Epi Center.
They have already been alerted, notified, etc. They know about this Pursuit. The problem is - I'm not able to get a hold of them because their telephone equipment is malfunctioning, it's cutting off halfway and I don't think they're aware of it. Secondly, I can't go anywhere as my car's in the impound as evidence. And yes, the Hospital knew what the whole issue was, but it was a little confusion going on, I later found out there had been misunderstanding as a Deputy talked with my son while I was asleep (FINALLY!) and apparently they thought "I was driving and fleeing from the police and had seizures", and later when the Deputies attempted to get the reports it was then when the ER Doctors realized they got it all "wrong", I wasn't fleeing from anyone, my son and I were the victims, and we were the "end" of the pursuit. We should have been in the Trauma Room and not in the "Non-Urgent" room way in the back. I did not deny any care at all, they refused to give me my medications as I'm on a schedule, my son begged them to provide it to me, the first one that was due. And when the last main dosage of the day was due, they were telling me they didn't have it except for the generic. My Epi does not want me on generic, he wants me on BRAND NAME ONLY and according to them they did not have any and I would have to bring it from home. And I never heard of a Hospital not having this. I've been in 24 car accidents - none ever being my fault, ever! So I have experience up in my sleeves, and some of those Deputies KNOWS this. And WHY the hospital kept me in my cold, wet, dirty, grass, mud, clothes and never changing me into something dry is beyond me. I had spent hours shivering being cold even though they must had given me 5-6 blankets to keep warm. YES - the impact triggered seizures, but before the impact, I was seizure-free, but that was because the side of my head hit the window and window frame of the car. I suffered the greater impact as the fleeing felon hit me on my end. And the interesting part is, his car was a 70s' Camero, and my car was my son's 2002 Daewoo, which I took it away from him after he totaled my brand new car which he took without my permission over a year ago (DUI), so my car (I call it a plastic toy) is really an expensive stereo equipment that runs on 4 wheels and gas as my son put a lot of money into the sound system (boom box, etc). The puzzling factor is, why the air bags never went off, and the Cops have checked and the system IS turned on and IS not disabled. However, the whole front driver's front side almost to my door is totaled and destroyed, insomuch the frame and chassis has been snapped. My car had no chance against a lean mean piece of metal (one reason why my son and I love old cars, because of the metal). YES - both my son and I wore seat belts, so that played a major IMPORTANCE right there. Deputies saw it, Witnesses saw it - so they all knew we wore our seat belts, but the airbags should have been deployed. It's been really frustrating for me, I still take my AED's. And while according to my son and Deputies and Doctors and Nurses, I did sustain seizures, but I have absolutely no memory of having any. I can't even remember much of the accident except for the first part of the impact, but anything else after that I don't remember or know, I didn't even know which hospital I was in, or why I we were there. I assumed my son told them to take us there, but he said I said. See my point? He also said that I was seizing and fighting the Deputies, Fire Dept, Paramedics and they had to wait to treat me, but I have no memory of it, as I was going in and out of it so quickly. It's frustrating! But as the time went on, the seizures subsided. NOW as for the hospital issue, they only performed a quickie C-Scan. It is virtually unknown if they ever contacted or even attempted to make any contacts with my Level 4 Epi. However, when another Deputy arrived, and corrected the ER Doctors about what had happened, I had already missed one of my AED and was late for my major AED's and they wanted to admit me. We were tired, hungry, soaking wet, cold, in pain, etc - and unhappy the way we were treated - we just wanted to go HOME and I wanted my MEDS! I didn't want anymore seizures or put myself at risk for any. I found it very hard to believe that the Hospital didn't have any of my meds - another reason why we chose to head home. They knew all about the neck pain, back pain, head injury, etc. They knew about the "gong" like sound in my head, but didn't seem to care. NOW that we know we were placed in an "Non-Urgent" Room, way in the back, we feel more insulted. And my son feels hurt by the way they treated his mom. He told me he kept telling them, but they seemed to ignore him. (He's almost 23 years old so this isn't a kid you're talking about, and besides, he's HUGE, and he looks like a linebacker for a Pro Football Team). In a lot of ways - I feel like I've been betrayed, having been in 24 accidents, a lot of them, I didn't have to go to the hospital, but those that I did, I was treated far better than this, only accident #18 was the worst one of them all and that one was the one we had a solid lawsuit case (the ONLY one that I ever had a lawsuit that went nowhere). Just so that people don't get the wrong idea, not all the accidents I was the driver, 2 of them I was the cyclist (riding the bike), and couple of them I was the passenger, and majority of them were rear-end collisions where people weren't paying attention. But this was my first time involving a Cop Pursuit. I think I now been through them all, except being over a bridge, and I don't want to experience that part. ![]()

My goodness, Sharon. It's amazing you're still living. You have lots of lives (cats have nothing on you, lady!).
On a serious note, I do hope you contacted the HR or whoever it is that accepts complaints at the hospital/urgent care. Furthermore, for the time being you should call your PCP and tell them you need something for pain. I don't know the laws where you are, but there are several laws in place regarding the allowed areas of police chases (highway versus small towns, areas within a certain radius of schools, etc.). I'd look into where the accident took place as well as any laws that may or may not prohibit chases within that area. For now though, you should get pain medication and probably some muscle/skeletal relaxant(s). If your PCP isn't around, just find some urgent care place and explain the situation to them. Go ahead and tell them pain, stress, etc. can trigger seizures and maybe they will catch on to give you something to bring comfort ![]() I'm so sorry you have to go through this. ![]()

I just found out why I couldn't have pain-killers from
the Medical Doctors, and from Birdy (Birdbomb) as well. Pain-killers will 'hide' the head injury symptoms. However I should have been given anti-inflammatory medication though. I am finding myself like my son - sleeping more and more but in weird patterns! ![]() Both of our hours are all mixed up, and believe it or not, both of us are sleeping on the floor more than on the bed! I am a little concerned about my son too, as he's made comments about feeling dizzy, and he's not eating much. (Yes, he had been hit in the head too) And he's showing signs of maybe TBI, but we're helpless right now.

Sharon...
what a NITEMARE...again I'm sorry for all that's happened to you & your son. The System def. Betrayed you. You were Victim, RE-victimized by those that should've helped . Your initial story evoked much concern and that is why I Posted Sorry if what I said was misunderstood or upsetting... my misunderstanding... wondered IF something could've been done , that would've helped you. I was not & do NOT blame you -- emphathized--that you did not get what you needed from those whose Job is to help. and that you suffered so much and continued to be in pain. I did not mean you were "non-compliant"--but kinow that's how they document when don't accept what they suggest--even if/when U know it's unacceptable. I've signed AMA & left "against medical advice" . I've had some bad experiences & hate going to ER. I've been taken to ER in pain, & was poorly treated, but never as badly as you & son were. I am so sorry for this and all you've been thru. I thought ( read-wrongly) about Meds & hospital..now you clarify that , they had NONE of your meds. Amazing. I understood why you wanted to just get out of there but as you relay more details--about what occured, mindblowing awful. I have no words except so sorry you had this experience. My own personal experiences--w/ head injurys/ TBi's signaled alarm & concern for you. I hope & pray things improve for you, that you & your son soon get tretment & resoution deserved. Prayers for the BEST... |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks everyone! Here's the Update: Things are moving quickly. Did get my stuff out of the car, the car has been totally destroyed. And the Impound is merely going to remove the glass windows, seats and transmission, the only thing that's worth saving - the rest of the car is going to be crushed, flattened, and scrapped. Everyone has been working overtime on this, even my Insurance Co is working quickly, and as for my son, his ribs is better, however, we will have a vehicle shortly and we should be getting medical attention quickly. My son is showing signs of head trauma, maybe TBI? Both of us have been sleeping a lot though. I still have the GONG going on in my head, and fortunately, no more seizures since the hospital, so far. (crossing fingers). But soon as my Adjuster gets the number, then I call my Level 4 and get my son set up with my Epi and we can get the ball rolling. The Felon is now in maximum prison.
