I was only recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia, however in my stunned state (wasn't expecting that diagnosis) I neglected to ask what type of dr. is best to treat it. In many of the posts I've seen references to rhumatologists, etc. I was hoping someone has had good luck with a particular type of specialist that would give me some direction. Thanks everyone! Best of luck to all of us!

My wife has fibro. Our PCP dxed it, and he treats it. I don't know if it depends more on some specific discipline or whether a particular doctor "believes" in it. We've actually had some doctors tell us straight out that certain conditions/diagnoses aren't in their "belief system". Go figure. Doc

What IS important is you get a doctor who understands Fibro and is keeping up with the new research.
If a doctor offers you trigger point diagnosis and/or injections that is NOT one to continue seeing. This doctor is one of the new doctors who is very patient oriented and also generous with his time. He follows all the new research and is involved in it. I've heard him at conferences and at one time he taught new patients once a week FREE...so they could learn to understand their own Fibro. Back then he invited the doctors in the audience to send their patients to him for this once a week free seminar! I don't know if he still does that now, however. http://www.fmscommunity.org/clauw.htm If you google him you might find his office and call there for a referral to someone close to you, who has trained with Dr. Clauw and or is up to date as Dr. Clauw is. If you Google him you'll find alot of his interviews and lectures online. He is a tremendous speaker as well, in person!

Thank you for that info. I guess I just need to find a doctor that actually believes it is a real condition. Otherwise they may just shove medications at me. I appreciate it very much. Best of luck to you and all of us!

Mrs D is so right.
I use a doctor that his a pain doctor. But he lets me take as much time as I need. He listens to were the pain is and then tells me what he thinks we should do. Donna |
