Default any ideals what could be wrong with me?

Hello

I have been running around in circles with doctors and myself trying to figure out what is wrong with me.

This all started during my second pregnancy. I first experienced some weird/strange vibrating/pins and needles sensation around my mouth at night when I sleep after I grind my teeth. Turned out I had a front tooth infection and my dentist said that may have been causing the weird sensation and twitching. Went on antibiotics and did a root canal. Three months later the sensation is still going on.

I get it alot after I eat or drink... it will feel like it's vibrating sometimes pins and needles feeling and sometimes my lips and mouth will twitch/spasm.

Did numerous blood tests everything normal. Did emg on hands and arms normal. What now?

Haven't done an MRI yet. Wondering if this could be from an allergy? Can allergy cause this? My nose will get tight and twitch too. I notice when I put on a certain brand of makeup (bare minerals) it gets worse. Where do I go from here? Should I see an immunologist? Or neuro?

I also get electric shock feelings in my feet and hands when I lay down to sleep or sometimes when I sit. Sometimes not all the time. Sometimes I get this cool.menthol sensation on my arms and fingers too... not everyday though but the facial twitching and vibration is everyday. It gets better at night meaning it is less at night and when I am in bed.

Hi: I used to get the tingling around my lips. I was taking a new BP medicine that apparently caused it. Are you taking medications? [/FONT][/I][/I]

These sound like symptoms of peripheral neuropathy. I had some similar symptoms when B12 deficient. Vibrating. Twitching. Pins and needles. Stabbing, electric shock pains. They started mild early on, but were progressive and became more serious as time went on. It took over eight doctors and five years before someone thought to check that.... so you might want to speed that process and request the testing.

B12 serum level
methylmalonic acid
homocysteine

Many, many things can cause neurological symptoms like these... but B12 deficiency is often missed and so easily treatable when caught early, with symptoms usually completely reversible. It is just one of many possibilities.

Gluten sensitivity/ celiac disease can also cause peripheral neuropathy. Gluten is found in wheat, barley, rye, and oddly these ingredients can make it into lotions, shampoos, make up.... and all sorts of foods you might not suspect. This would also be worth ruling out... especially if you feel your symptoms are worse after eating.

Tests include:
antigliadin IgA, IgG (suggests gluten sensitivity)
anti-tTG and/or anti-endomysial (suggests celiac disease)
total IgA (rules out IgA deficiency which can cause false results on the other tests)

While most GI doctors are only concerned if you test positive for celiac disease (defined by villous atrophy on intestinal biopsy)... positive antigliadin antibodies suggest a degree of gluten sensitivity that may cause peripheral neuropathy, ataxia, and other neurological disease. Be sure they include antigliadin antibodies in the test.

There is a lot more info on diagnostics of gluten sensitivity/ celiac disease in The Gluten File linked in my signature, and more info on gluten related neuropathy as well.

These are just two possibilities... many other things can cause neuropathy symptoms... but keep pushing to find out what the underlying cause is.

Cara

I'd also get tested for thyroid issues. These can follow a pregnancy.

Tingling around the mouth can also mean low calcium levels.
So take a good calcium supplement (and make sure you are getting a good amount of Vit D too to help with its absorption).

Here is a very good Vit D video with the newest research on it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQ-qekFoi-o

The new information on Vit D is really amazing and provocative.
This is a long video... please watch it.

Please get the numbers on your B12 test, if it were done. Anything less than 500 should be supplemented.
You should also get tested for Vit D levels. Pregnancy will stress Vit D and calcium for new mothers.

I did eat a powerbar before I was tested for b12 level... don't know if that had any effect. It contains vitamin b12
