Default Burning skin sensation

I have had a burning skin sensation throughout my entire body almost like I have been sunburned for almost 5 years. Ive tried a lot of medication and not one has worked at all. I just started using a b12 supplment and for the first time I have seen some relief. My b12 level was 273. Do you think that b12 can help me and how long till I see more results and when do you think I should be taking the b12 supplment. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Andrew, I'd suggest you use the activated form called methylcobalamin, and take 5mg of it daily on an empty stomach.

Since you are seeing results, you'll have to take this for several months in order to see further improvements. Typically I recommend 3 months on 5mg then reduce as improvement occurs. But with you severe problem, you may need 6months.

Do you know why you were so low? If not, you'll have to take this for life, I think. Acid lowering drugs and Metformin will affect B12 levels. But Vegans also have problems sometimes, and also those with damaged parietal cells of the stomach.

--a very low B12 number: I'd be surprised if you didn't have other symptoms as well.

I certainly think B12 can help you--has there been any further investigation done to figure out why that number is so low? Inquiry into the prsence of intrinsic factor in the stomach, autoantibodies, etc.

Fortunately, B12 deficiency can be treated. And the latest evidence points to oral supplementation being just as effective as the standard injection regimen. See:

My advice would be to supplement with 3000-5000mcg/day of B12, preferably the methylcobalamin form (in case you have any genetic inability to convert the commercial forms, which are usually cyanocobalamin, into the bodily active methylated form--fortunately one can now get this easily) until serum levels show a marked increase into four digit readings--obviously, you should monitor your symptoms, too. You may eventually be able to cut back to a maintenance dose of 1000mcg/day, though you will likely need to do this for life.

Take the lozenges first thin upon waking up, if you can, at least an hour before consuming anything else; the cobalamin molecule is the largest nutritive molecule our body regularly uses and it is very easy to interfere with its absorption (fiber, for example, will complex it out).

thanks for replying. I have been taking 5000mcg by jarrow every other day for a week and will start to take it everyday now. Do you have any other suggestions about the burning skin. Greatly appreciated.
