Default Anxiety or neurological problem?

Hi, I've suffered from health anxiety for about 2 years now. I am very concerned about one of my symptoms though. I had a sunburn burning sensation on my lips and nose and up both sides of my nose. This lasted for a few days, and I get burning patches all the time now whenever I'm anxious and think about it. Can this be caused by anxiety? I do remember at the time I was worried about getting a cold sore, as I had read that it can be spread to other parts of the body. I have seen a neurologists and he believes just anxiety, also my brain mri was clear. Also, would something like ms only affect one side of the lips and nose as opposed to both? I have read that the nerves control the feelings in either side of the face, so wondered if it would only affect half the lips and nose. Thanks

I wish I could answer your questions. The neurologist could run some tests concerning MS -- has he done this?

If not, perhaps you could ask him to do it, and see what the results are. If it's negative, you COULD be in the very early stages -- OR you may not have it at all.

It really could be the anxiety, it's hard to say. It can manifest itself in strange ways. I wish you the very best. Please keep us informed as to what you find out. God bless and please take care! Hugs, Lee

Could you have a sinus infection? Seen an allergist, along with a neurologist? If your first MRI came clear, count your blessings you don't have lesions showing up. If your neurologist, feels it's anxiety, what other doctor specialists, has he recommended/mentioned?

MS, can do things to the body, such as weird numbness, due to lesions being at various places on the brain. And, if your MRI came clear, perhaps, it stands to reason, you haven't had an aneurysm, that too, would show up in the MRi, and good thing there no glioblastoma, that too would show up. OMG!!! Phew...your MRi was clear!!

Default Anxiety or a Neurological Disorder/Illness

Freud was a Neurologist. After much frustration with illnesses that just didn't seem to have a Neurological Answer, he fathered Psychoanalysis. (this is a condensed cliff note style of the history of how a neurologist turned into a psychologist).

There was once a patient, codenamed Anna, that was rather immobilized by the undo stress and hardship of her own life. The more, Freud, had her freeform and talk about her life, the better she began to feel physically.

There is a term for this, somatization. Stress, is a funny little bugger in the emotive aspect of the brain, that can cause a physical reaction in the brain.

I'd imagine, that when your neurologist mentioned the concept that this is anxiety, after much testing and struggling to find a neurological answer to your health, he/she meant, anxiety is the probable cause of your physical symptoms.

Even neurologists, have a good appreciation(whether they wholly agree or not) for Freud. Neurologist turned creator of psychoanalysis. Meaning, they understand the notion that sometimes stress(an emotive aspect) can wreak havoc on the body.

So when their neurological testing results in clear findings, seriously, what else are they supposed to say, other than, anxiety could be the culprit?

It's obvious, distress is occurring in your life. Numbness, tingling, burning sensations, et al, are something to get treated. From one side of the brain or the other, get it treated and taken care of, please.
