Has anyone here had this?
I had Thursh from antibiotics I took about 4 months ago. It affected my throat and esophagus. I think it finally went away but now I am having this. Trouble swallowing, coughing fits and when I get heartburn, OH MAN!! It's awful. I went online and looked it up, symptoms and treatment. It said that asthma inhalers and drugs like Zantac do help with the symptoms and that this can last anywhere from weeks to months. I spoke to someone who went through all the diagnostic procedures and he told me that it was so uncomfortable and just NOT worth all the trouble and he just relys on Zantac and Rolaids now and he gets along just fine. It said to avoid alcohol, which I never drink anyway and not to smoke so I put the Patch on today and haven't smoked. I will continue to wear the Patch and not smoke indefinately. I may just quit. It's time anyway. I am So miserable. Can somebody talk to me about this? |

Hi Wiix,
How's it all going now? I'm a bit confused with what's happening. Do you think you have gastric reflux causing the trouble swallowing, coughing and heartburn or do you think that you still have the thrush as well? I'm not understanding how an asthma inhaler will help unless it's asthma. Has the thrush totally cleared up? Something really good to take when you're on antibiotics is a probiotic. I buy one called Inner Health Plus. I keep it in the refrigerator. My daughter has only one kidney and and the ureter are malformed and she has needed lots of antibiotics in the past year unfortunately. The probiotics have helped keep the thrush away totally. If you are having reflux problems there are some practical things you can do to help that a bit. Like sleeping with your head part of the bed at a higher angle than the base of the bed. Numerous other things, including avoiding coffee and certain foods. I guess it depends what is causing the reflux (but I'm not sure that is what you have). Sometimes reflux can be caused by structural problems. Let us know more about how you're doing now. I hope things have cleared up a lot more by now. |

I think maybe the Thrush has flair ups, sort of like a Blooming Mushroom. When I had it I could actually smell it on and around myself ie: my breathe, urine, sweat. Thrush is Truely a Misery. I am working on getting myself healthier. Drinking more water, eating very small meals and no night time eating. This too is improving Everything. I thought I'd be weak and tired but I'm not. AND I have stopped Killing myself with hard, physical labour around here. No more Major cleaning projects for a while. I feel like I'm just getting too damn old for all this and maybe I should look into getting some household help on occassion. Probiotic sounds interesting. Can I get it on-line? Does it do the same thing that eating Yogurt does? I have been eating Yougurt almost everyday for the past few weeks too. doc at the ER said to eat more yogurt, so I am. |

you can also get excellent probiotics by having Kefir (in many supermarkets and health stores...usually near the next good probiotic...good yoghurt like Stoneyfield farms and also the Dannon "Activia" and DanActive lines ( not all yoghurt is as rich in probiotics as these are) I recently had to have some strong antibiotics for a tooth abcess and I was warned that thrush and GIT candida "yeast" could result, so I started taking all of those above daily, especially the Kefir, and actually am in better health now than before the abcess! Good stuff these probiotics. I am also taking something called Candida Clear by NOW, just in case the antibiotics allowed any bad flora to take root inside.

I didn't realize how much of our immune system depends on good flora in the digestive tract. I was under the impression that our Lymphatic system was the seat of the immune sytem. Thanks Chemar, I will also look for that tomorrow since I am down to my last cherry yogurt and I am shopping tomorrow. Good timing. Kefir, I will keep an eye out for that too. Is that a tablet?

Hi Wixx
Lara is right get a good probiotic. While I have not had thrush I am currently being treating for an all over body candida infection so I understand the burning. You can also try apple cider vinegar and definitely try to cut out all sugar for a few days. This site helped me a bit with my candida infection. I will PM it to you. |

From what I understand Candida IS a yeast infection.
In the esophagus, it's not so much as a burning sensation, it's very hard to describe but it's very uncomfortable. Almost like your throat is coated with Flannel. Just doesn't FEEL right. When you swallow it feels like it's having a hard time passing, like it's stuck but it's really not, just doesn't feel smooth like it should. Thanks for the links CupCake Lady. ::salivates uncontrollably:: |

ditto what everyone else said.
Just remember that not all yoghurt they sell in stores is the same. Some is very very good, some is fine, and some is just basically sugary, sweet desert. lol I don't know how they count them, , but my Inner Health Plus says there are 25 Billion good bacteria per capsule. My good yoghurt has 20 Million good bacteria per serve. Both have the Lactobacillus acidophilus and the Bifidus. Live bacteria, that's why they're in the refrigerator. I wouldn't buy that product online. I'm not even sure if you have the same thing there in the US but imagine you would. Health Food Store or Chemist, but from the 'fridge! My good yoghurt has 20 million good bacteria per serve. Big difference. Quote:
