I am a new member and was wondering if anyone can help me out. My husband 27 yrs. old and has been experiencing mild to grand mal seizures since the age of twelve. The cause of his seizures is a trauma induced cyst on the rear lower part of his brain (I believe the cerebrum?). We are trying to avoid medication as this badly affects his motor functions and concentration. If anyone has any suggestions on how to shrink the cyst homeopathically it would be of great assistance to us both. Thanx!

(((((((((((((((Kacey)))))))))))))))))).
Has he ever seen a neurosurgeon? If not, or if it's been a long time, he should see one ASAP. I don't believe there is a reliable way to shrink the cyst without surgery (I'm just a lifelong neurosurgery patient who reads everything ![]() Good luck! LIZARD ![]() |

I do not know of a drug, vitamin, or mineral, herb, or other supplement that
will change anatomy. Homeopathic in this instance is not really the term you are searching for, I believe. Homeopathic remedies have nothing basically in them, they are diluted up to a million times, and the belief in them is mostly their result. Some newer versions have a tiny bit of active ingredient, but most are highly dilute. Use of some things may help with seizures in some people. The old epilepsy board had posts about fish oil, flax oil, and some vitamins. Fish oil is thought to reduce membrane excitibility, and reduce seizures for some. http://www.raysahelian.com/seizure.html This should be discussed with his doctor, and if your husband uses RX drugs, they needed to be factored in. Folic acid can interfere with some seizure drugs, and increase frequency. It has to be used very carefully. But response to these are extremely variable, since seizures can come from many causes. I would caution you to AVOID high doses of Vit A (retinol), not betacarotene because Vit A may increase intracranial pressure. So even if your husband is using a multivitamin..check the formula..to see how much Vit A is in there. I would stay away from herbal products, since they can also be very unpredictable.

Hi Kacey,
Has your husband seen a neurosurgeon about the cyst he has? If so, what did they recommend? I ask because I had a colloid cyst of the third ventricle (benign cyst) removed Nov 2000. When I presented to my neurosurgeon, I had had tremendous headaches that would leave me in bed praying to sleep because I could not concentrate with the pain. I awoke one morning with the absolute worst headache, and felt nauseous. I went into my bathroom, turned on my light, and could not see from my left eye. (my vision did return later that day)((My neursurgeon said the cyst was pressing on the optic nerve)) Please speak with his neurosurgeon. Anything dealing with the brain that is not a normal anatomical part of the brain, is definetly something to not let go on without medical guidance. Best wishes to you both, Dodi |
