Default Diagnosed with MRSA

Hi ya,
I was in the hospital for two weeks for a major surgery. When I got to go home, I didn't know that I was bringing baggage with me. I just looked forward to getting stronger and putting this behind me. Soon after going home I came down with Influenza B. It hit my lungs and I needed oxygen so I was put back
in the hospital for several days. When I went home again, the oxygen went with me. By this time I felt like an old rung out rag, but I wasn't through there.
I soon developed a blood clot in my leg because I wasn't up enough after surgery because of the flu. Soon after I came down with pneumonia. It didn't surprise me by then. I was soon diagnosed with MRSA as I had an open place
in my skin that looked pretty bad.
I know I picked the MRSA and flu from the hospital. There was isolation rooms
near my room. I had worked in this hospital for 10 years as a nursing assistant and went in and out of these rooms a zillion times and never got sick. I suppose that my resistance was low.
I would like to know other people out there That have MRSA. It is hard for me to admit it. It's like being shamed and you really don"t want anyone to know.

Gotta go, my cookies are burning

MRSA is much more common than most people realise, and many people in the community have it, and never know. Staph grows normally on our skin and is part of the body's first line of defence against infection.

MRSA stands for Methicillin Resistant Staphlococcus Aureus (the aureus meaning golden, hence the other name of Golden Staph). It's come about by the over use of antibiotics, making the staph bug resistant to all the penicillins. There are a few high powered antibiotics that will kill off MRSA, (eg. Vancomycin) but they are only used when the health of the person is compromised if left untreated.....like if the MRSA got into a bone.

The best cure is exposure to sunlight. Uncover the infected area and expose it to direct sun for (say) half an hour, twice per day.

Spread can be prevented by good handwashing techniques.

Default zyvox usage

Hi Koala77,
The first outbreak and diagnosis I had, was put on zyvox. (or linezolidI). The cost was $2,200. I have medicare and a prescription drug program that paid for it. They didn't want to at first, but did help for about 90% of the cost.

Thank you
