Default .*sigh* well here goes...

About a year ago my sister mentioned to me that our Mother (I loved her so very much, but she was very distressed at times) tried to abort me using alcohol. I don't know how much what trimester or how many times. I am going for an MRI (brain) on Tuesday. I have been in Therapy for approx 8 years, I won't say for what here. At first when she told me I was in shock but under control. As the year went along I just started to come unglued. I am a grandma now and when I tell people what she told me, they ask me: "why did she wait to tell you now?" Well, I have no good answer.

Okay, I have questions and am a little nervous about a couple of things:

1. What to expect during before and after the MRI

2. Ho long it will take

3. Will I be poked with something

4. Why did Dr up it to next when they told me a wait as long as 3 to 4 months can be expected.

Any help will be appreciated. I am familiar with brain things becuase my husband had a brain anyeurism when our kids were much much younger.

Thanks!

Given your story, your screen name is quite intense.

I've never had an MRI so I can't help with your questions. I hope someone with experience finds your questions.

Let us know how things go.

Default Welcome

Sounds like like a lot of tring issues, but I agree, you are here with us. Welcome.

I have had two MRI's in the last year, one for my lower back and one for my head. For the brain scan they did take pictures with and then without dye, which they injected me with. It felt just like an iv and was no big deal, but I'm ok with IV's and shots. The biggest thing with me was laying on my back the whole time, I have lower back issues and its painful to be in that postion for me. Other than that is wasnt any big deal.

It's a fairly small tube that they slide you into, not bad, but if you dont like small spaces you may want to ask your doctor for a seditive. With a seditive you should almost fall to sleep in there, many doctors ask if you want something. Again, it really depends on how sensitive you are to these type of things, but you will be fine. Oh, one more thing... its very noisy, they should have ear plugs for you though.

I hope all is well with the results, please let us know. And if you have any more questions, please post...........Take care, Mitch.

Twinkletoes, thank you for your kind thoughts on Mom's love for me. I have gone over and over my life and have decided that she, for the most part, really did love me, especially over time and by getting to know me but I think she may have always felt tinges of guilt when she saw my successes and my failures. I would that she never felt that way.

Consider This, yes, I must admit this is why I gave myself this name. I chose it to try a feel more positive about myself in light of possible fas symptoms. I even celebrated my Birthday, in another Forum on a different day this year, Valentines Day! The sadness is subsiding but I had no idea it would take this long.

Thank you,
Happy Birthday

Make sure you have no metal in or on you - MRI is a giant magnet.
It was suggested to me to wear loose soft clothes like jog pants & T shirt - no zipper, hooks or snaps etc.

The one I had was VERY noisy - lots of clunking, clicking, banging
no one had told me it would be so loud- they do give you headphones with music but they would have had to turn it wayyy up to cover all the sounds the machine was making LOL.

plus the technician can talk to you thru the headphones.

I didn't have any contrast or dye for mine.

mine took about 20-30 minutes for T & c spine.

Neednewback:

Thank you for your wonderful reply.

Did the MRI results help your Doctors determine a plan of action? I sure hope so because of the pain you suffered and are still suffering. Also, I am hoping they may be able to give me a plan of action.

The MRI is only one test of four, I have to do.

Does one get the calming medication from your personal Doctor or did you get it from the doctors in the MRI testing?

Take Care
HB

Jomar:

Thanks for the insite into what to wear and no metal. I had no idea!

So, I guess there may not be a sleep in it for me lol. I may fall asleep though because I have to be there at 7 AM, so will be up at about 5 AM

"lots of clunking, clicking, banging" Wow! I never knew! Thanks for letting me know. That could be a bit should I say scarry. I think I will ask for the headphones.

Thankkkkss so Mmmmuchhhhh

I hope it only takes an hour because I have to go to work after.

My heart goes out to you.

One big, warm, tight, hug, handshake and howdy, moose-size welcome to the site. This place is amazing!

*Trying to pick my words carefully

Your story made tears well up on me. My first thoughts were why did she tell you this and is it even true?

With the MRI, usually the technician has ear plugs for you to use. At least they do whenever I got one.

The team here at NueroTalk has of a single minded priority and purpose; take care of each other. So please keep in mind...

You are not alone.
You are one of us.
And we are here to help.
